At about 7 AM we headed out I was in the lead in the Midget and my wife followed in her Eclipse. We drove about an 90 minutes south to the near the Illinois boarder. We stopped at the Woodman's Grocery store, which is humongusly large. We purchased some cheese curds, which to the best of my knowledge is only available in Wisconsin as it is a "FRESH" cheese. Should be consumed within one day of production.
We gassed up as I wanted to be sure we could make it to the other side of Chicago without stopping. I was hoping the traffic wouldn't be too bad as it was a Saturday morning. However, I was disappointed, between the traffic and the construction, the trip through Chicago took an hour longer than the GPS said it should. It's hard to believe there is no good way around Chicago. I 94 with all the trucks was no fun at all in the Midget, I almost got run over a couple of times by trucks changing lanes.
We got off the freeway somewhere east of Gary Indiana and took route 30 through northern Indiana. This took us throught the Amish country, which we really enjoyed. We had previously been through the Pennsylvania and Ohio Amish areas, and the wife and I agreed we like the Indiana area the best.
Saturday we stopped in Auburn Indiana, the home of the Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg museum.
The Midget abd the chase vehicle. I always thought the wife's Eclipse was a small car. This picture shows how small the midget really is!

On Sunday morning we went to the museum and really enjoyed it. The styling of the prewar cars is something to behold. There was a black 810 Cord that was my favorite, but the most impressive car was a 2 seat Dusenberg that had to be 25 feet long. I would love to get a picture of the Midget next to it.
At about 1 PM we headed for home. We did about half the trip on back roads and the rest on Interstate. The Midget did dremarkably well. Cruising at 60 - 70 mph without a problem. However, the 4000 rpm and 70 mph made me long for an overdrive gear.
The total trip home was about 720 miles and the Midget averaged about 36 mpg.
When I get a chance I'll throw in some pictures of the trip, so check back.
I'm currently working on minor repairs:
passenger side mirror
adjust parking brake
replace windshield wipers
get a second key
new tires (the ones on the car were the original tires - 29 years old!)
replace head rests and sun visors
repair headlight switch
and a good overall cleaning
The brakes are very weak so that is the most challenging problem.
