This was my 71 GTX. It was a 440 4 barrel, 4 speed, 3.54 Dana 60 car. It's time in my garage was brief and tumultous. Without getting into too much detail, during the eight months I owned it, it required a new motor and a rebuilt Dana 60. It spent most of it's time in some state of disassembly while I owned it.
The car was gorgeous and a case of love at first sight. I purchased it immediately after selling my Charger simply because it was a deal too good to pass up.
It was certainly a rare combination. It was a very low option car with neither Power Steering nor Power Brakes. I joked that it came from the factory with just two options: an AM/FM radio and a stripe. It was not numbers matching, but it was a 100% rust free restoration. Unfortunately, all the effort was apparently spent on the costmetics and not the mechanicals. While it looked great, it ran and drove like shit.
I spent a lot of time and money sorting out this car, but ultimately the financial reality caught up to me and I was forced to sell. The subsequent owner inherited a VERY nice car. This is one I will probably miss even though it damn near killed me.
November 2009 Update:
The car has recently appeared on Ebay. Though you might like to see how it has evolved.
