8/15/2009 Changes since last time. Clear corners added and today Magnaflow Dual Exhaust added. Sound and nice and deep. Wanted to have the exhaust coming straight out but was recommended not to do so because of CO2 drafting into the truck. Will take pics and upload later today. Next will be Suspension lift or HID lighting but either way it'll be after I get some renovations done around my house.

Update: JAOS H4 (2 set) lights mounted to roof rack and fender mirror also attached. Car needs a wash. Trying to buy a house so mods have definitely taken a back seat. Hopefully lift or custom Magna exhaust next.
Update 4/16/09 Got the truck washed yesterday. Second set of JAOS lamps will be here along with the fender mirror at the end of the month so looking forward to installing everything. Plan to get a higher amp alternator so I don't have to worry about killing my battery. Took these pics earlier today.
Update 4/7/09 Was able to get my hands on the 185 back up mirror below for about $10. That's the easy part; the hard part will be getting the wiring and switches installed so that the mirror drops down when the car is put into reverse. I know of one other person doing this on here and it is not easy as Toyota no longer makes 185 parts. Also, ordered the fender mirror in black which I will have at the end of the month along with my other two JAOS H4 lamps. These will be mounted to the roof rack but to do this I'll have to splice the wiring. Next week I will get my custom muffler done. Going with Magnaflow over Flowmaster. My past rig had a Magnaflow single but this time I'm gonna double up.
One more item that I've added to my wishlist is this tire carrier. Lost it in an auction a couple of months ago but will keep checking. I'll obviously have to get my rear bumper removed and get a custom one to mount this but it'll be worth it. It got up to about $160. The pic to the left shows what I lost and the one to the right shows a similar finished product to give you the idea. Also you can see the back up mirror on this SURF.
Update: 3/18/09 It's already been a month since my last update. Today I installed the JAOS skid plate sent to me by my girl from Japan. A local offroad company wanted to charge me $50 for the install but I just said screw it and picked up some tools from work. Need to pick up my own set so I can do more stuff on my own. Love the plate and can't wait to get my hands on the OME coils and shocks. (Car is in serious need of a wash which I will get done this weekend)
In the end this is what I'm working towards, the TJM Outback style for my 2000 4Runner. So far got the bar, skid plate and lights. Next is the lift and tires.

Update: 2/19/09 Here are pics of the JDM SURF stickers that I put on on Monday. Truck needs to be washed but you get the idea. Not sure if I will have the trim painted black yet. Love these stickers. They are very hard to find now in Japan just because 185 parts are no longer made by Toyota. I have another SURF sticker that is a different design but only for one side. Will upload that one and will also upload pics of a much cleaner truck this weekend.
Special thanks to my girl Aki for helping me get my hands on the JDM parts!
Update: 1/31/09
Washed the truck and put the visors on, took some pics but the sun was already going down so I'll take more today. Putting on the JDM fenders and side mirrors this weekend as I get ready to get the trim painted black along with the JDM spoiler I got. Afterwards, I'll move on to headers, exhaust and then lift and tires/wheels.
Special thanks to my girl for helping get the hard stuff! Just purchased the 185 JAOS skid plate. This normally retails here for like $450 and we were able to get it for less than $200! I like JAOS a lot (take a look at my old 98) but much of their stuff is ridiculously overpriced. Hope to have it on the truck before the end of February.
Update: 1/19/2009
Picked up the JDM fender panels today with the side markers and parking mirror. Plan to attach these next month or March before the full body paint job. Picked these up in North Georgia from JARCO. If you're big on JDM then you may have heard of JARCO. Unfortunately they won't be importing anymore from Japan but they do have a few items on Ebay and not just SURF parts too.
Update: 1/17/2009
Attached Wood panels to doors and replaced JAOS Fogs with Toyota ones. Driving around tonight I realized that I angled the fogs too high so will adjust tomorrow.
I spliced into the OEM fog light wiring so all I have to do is flick the factory switch. I like these, nice and simple install. I am holding on to the JAOS H4s and will mount them in front of the JDM carrier that I am gettng shipped from Japan. I will have two sets of JAOS H4s up top.
I got the four pieces from Japan and put them on this morning. This was discontinued in 2001 and was an option that cost $390 if you wanted it on your 185 Hilux Surf.
Update: 1/9/2009 Pics of the installed Injen Cold Air Intake:
Update: 1/8/2009 Installed Injen Cold Air Intake. Already a noticeable difference but I haven't floored it yet to get to open throttle. Plan to add a throttle spacer next. Will add fresh pics of the finished product this weekend.
Update: 12/24/08 Installed Toyota JDM Clean Box. Had to remove a back piece to install. Originally this was made for the left side so required some modification. Love the install and next I hope to put the visors on but that will wait until painted.
Here are pics of the box before the install, you can see the protruding back piece that I had to remove to get it to fit on the right.
Here you can see the completed install. Inside is a removable black container that catches all of your trash. Lovin it already!
Update: 12/20/08 Took some picsof the Evil Eyes and relocated fog lights. Decided to do an all black paint job in the spring. With the truck being in the garage and it being grey out the pics didn't exactly come out perfect but you get the idea.
Update: December 15th, 2008. I've finished fabricating a set of Evil Eyes which will go over the lights. Will get pics up this weekend. Also, ordered JDM Toyota visors, JDM Roof rack, Toyota fog lights, door wood panels and rear spoiler. You can see the unpainted spoiler on my page background.
Update: December 1, 2008 This past weekend removed carpet for deep cleaning and replacement of padding.
The previous owner was a UT sorority chick who was nice enough to dump her Starbucks lattes on the carpet and let Fido have a field day. I removed all the seats and the carpet+padding. Removed the padding from the bottom of the carpet and pressure washed the carpet as well as cleaned the bay. Coroded coins found in the spaces between the seats and transmission as well as coffee stains on the rear heater unit under the front passenger seat (see below top left). I bought padding from Home Depot that is slightly thicker than stock. After cleaning the carpet and car I am liking my ride even more. It was a cinch for me, just took time but I'd recommend this for anyone who's Runner has is dirty or had previous owners. I was able to clean everything too which is a great benefit of this. I added even more padding to places that didn't have it like the side pillars and under parts of the rear seat. Next mod, I plan to wire some LEDs to the oem fog light switch.
Update: Radio and TJM T13 bumper + JAOS Challenger H4 Install!!
Here are pics of the finished product. I am very satisfied with this install. The JAOS lights are always a good addition. My goal is to build the TJM JAOS Surf in the JAOS pic below. Anyway, thanks for checking it out and please stay tuned
Here are pics of the bumper removed and the TJM T13. Special thanks to Errol for help with the install. I can't wait to lift this thing and get the JAOS skid plate. I wasn't able to salvage my OEM foglights but my plan is to run the wires through the firewall and create wheel well lights in front and back. This will give me the option of controlling the lights rather than running footwells to the door lights.
Here is a pic of the truck with the sidesteps removed. Went to the Stealer and they tried to charge me $198 just to remove the damn things! I managed to get all but a couple of tight bolts out so took it get them removed. Paid $30!! Do not take your car to Team Toyota, what a rip!! I plan to put the steps and the factory radio on Ebay.

Update: Radio has been installed!!
Here is the unit after install. CD on top and MD on bottom.
The radio has been installed and next will be to do sound deadening as well as add a woofer and amp. The auxiliary on the radio is run to an RCA cord that I connect to my PSP. Unit plays CDS (every format), MP3s and MDs. It really is a kickass radio; also comes with remote.
Hi and thanks for checking out my page. It is still a work in progress as I get ready to build a 2000 4Runner/Hilux Surf. You can see pics of my sold 98. Decided to upgrade to the 00 and step up the modifications even more. Check it out and tell me what you think.
Here are pics of my recent purchase and upcoming build: 2000 4Runner 4WD Limited at 106K miles.
One thing I really like that changed between the 98 and 99 Limited is the console. Everything is much cleaner and you get the LCDs rather than the old rotary odometer and dials on the AC. Also, Toyota dropped the rat cages that were called drink holders. Had to worry about condensation dripping onto my radio. No more!! Anyhow, now on to my new build. First things first, I will be getting my second Kenwood Unit installed this weekend. It is a JDM model same as my old one, slightly cleaner. Posting a pic shortly. Top left is the console and right is a JAOS pic. I picked up the TJM T13 Bull Bar at the bottom left. I also picked up the H4 Challenger lights as seen in the pic. Very nice upgrade! Made for JAOS by IPF these aren't your el cheapo upgrades.
Here is a pic of my mascot for the 2000. Putting it on the dash. I managed to get my hands on the SURF stickers you see also in the pic for my build.
