I named this car project "FRANKEINSTEIN" because this car is basically being built from parts from at least three other 1966 Ford Galaxies that Ive aquired. Sort of like the old movie where the mad scientist dude robbed all these corpses and bodyparts and created this totally radical monster. This is basically what I started with several years ago. I scrapped the body and kept the frame, engine and tranny. the frame now has been rebuilt and now I'm sorta not decided on what I want to do. I just found and bought another car which is a 2 door sister to the red one and in way better shape body-wise. Im considering stripping the car I just bought and putting the body on the newly rebuilt frame. I'm not certain exactly what direction Im heading with this project right now.
I got the red four door around seven years ago and just started tearing it down to rebuild but the underneith of the body was a rusted, total loss. So I scrapped it, keeping stuff that was still usable, like taillights, wiring harnesses, fenders, door handles, glass....well, you get the point and began rebuilding the frame, part by part. Now, the only thing I havent done to the frame is treat it with some rust barrier, which I plan to do as soon as I figure out which one to use.
The car I just aquired is in excellent shape barring some very faded paint and a little surface rust here and there, I think It will make a killer ride once I get into it. It has a 390 with cruise-o-matic tranny. The engine is all factory right down to the '66 factory air breather.
The interior of the 2dr is cherry except the pass. side, interior door panel is missing but ive got spares. (Im a very firm believer in the value of spare parts), Never can have too many parts cars or extra parts laying around.

I will be tearing into her shortly to see exactly what Ive got to work with but since I just got the 2dr home today, havent had a lot of time yet. I just might yank the engine and tranny out of the 2dr and transfer all the new parts from my 4dr frame to this one and then start work on the body. Who knows. The interior of the red car was pretty much wasted, about the only thing I could salvage was the steering columb and foot pedals and the instrument cluster. The red car was sort of unique becase it had no door posts and it was special ordered with a rear mounted, separate air conditioning system under the rear deck area where most rear speakers would go. Notice that the rear deck behind the back window is louvered? thats the heat vents for the a/c system mounted in the back of the car. The first time I saw it, I thought........."how weird."
One of these days, I will take a picture of it, I still have the red car body, its just no longer on the frame. Its propped
up on an old truck frame so I can move it around if I need to.
Just a quick note or three here for anyone who might be interested. This is my work truck. Its a 1989 Ford F150 Lariat. It has the standard, fuel injected 5.0 with the C/4 automatic. Starts every day and except for a bad alternator a few months ago, Its been a danged, good ole truck and its hauled many a parts car and parts of my other projects. Keep tellin myself that I'm gonna strip it down and give it the attention it deserves if it holds together long enough for me to get some of these other projects running and driving. I thought of finding a swb frame and bed and then stripping my truck down to the frame and just rebuilding the whole damned thing, piece by piece. I'd pretty much have a brand new truck in an '89 body.
Not that it hasnt been done before but I think the ole parts hauler would look pretty cool as a swb with some nice wheels, new paint, rebuilt engine and tranny, ect, ect.
