Welcome to my page. I hope you like the pics of my GTA. This is one of the 1,509 Canadian GTAs for 1987. It is Bright Red with Camel interior. It was ordered with every option available in 1987 which balooned the MSRP to a lofty (for 87) $20,059.25!!! She just turned 15,000 miles (the pic of the odo was taken a year ago) and is all original right down to the working flashlight. I plan on keeping her original.
According to the 1987 Firebird Factory Order Sheet, there were 3 options that could not be ordered together with the 5.7L engine, t-tops, factory subwoofer speaker system and cargo security screen. This car has all three.
I have been doing some research as to how my car and other 5.7/t-top cars like it ever left the factory because according to all Pontiac literature, they should never have been built. I have found one common thread....every GTA I have seen equipped this way has been a Canadian car. No US cars have surfaced.
Frankie Rider administrator of the GTASourcepage.com told me that he spoke to Lou Wassel who was Pontiac's F- body Marketing Manager in the 80's and he said that he knew of no seperate order sheet for Canada or exports but that Canada "could get all kinds of screwy stuff done" when ordering cars in those years.
So there is no definitive way to tell just how these cars ever came to be or how many were made but , so far, no one has seen a 1988 or 90-92 with these options together. 1989 stands alone as the only year you could officially order t-tops with the 5.7 engine and just about every 89 GTA had them.
So if you are reading this and you own an 87 GTA with t-tops and the 350 engine, you have a fairly rare set of wheels. Original Bright Red paint which is...well...bright and red.
