So far everything I've done to it:
.) Changed the engine oil and filter with a mobil 1 M1-110 oil filter (unfortunately I gotta buy the expensive filters because our oil filters are about the size of a bottle of advil and it's either a small quality filter, or a small fram filter which is like the worst thing you could possibly do). I miss being able to get the Motorcraft oil filters for cheap at Walmart. sad.gif
.) Cleaned the throttle body and idle air control valve
- On these cars when these gunk up the idle drops really low and bounces back up when you put the clutch in, cleaning this not only fixed it (tach drops and stops dead at 650RPM like its supposed to), but it has a lot more in the low end too because the idle air control valve has a somewhat significant influence on the mixture up to about 3500ish RPM
.) Installed a Cold air intake into the fenderwell. This particular intake manifold on the gen4 US maximas has runner designs tuned for low end torque (as you can see by the hp and tq numbers), this design almost makes an INCREDIBLY loud growl. REALLY LOUD. To quiet this down, the stock Nissan intake starts off almost identical to on the Taurus, but instead of just going into the fender well with a silencer cone, it turns the airflow 180 degrees with piping facing back out toward the engine where there is a huge silencer box. At this point the airflow turns another 180 degrees and down in front of the transmission where there is another silencer box, then it turns another 180 degrees and comes up to a small inlet that sits on top of the radiator. Ton's of restriction in that, so the cold air intake not only allows me to enjoy that snarl at WOT, but it frees up a bit of power on the top end when that stock intake would normally choke it out.
.) In the fusebox by the foglight relay I tapped the fog light trigger wire into the accessory power wire that feeds the windshield wiper relay. This allows me to turn on the fogs independantly of the headlights, meaning I can use my fogs with the high beams on, the parking lights on, or no other lights on.
.) The lighted corners next to the headlights are a really dim puny yellowish color from the factory. The bulb inside uses two fillaments because some cars are dim like this (like the older gen maximas), and then when you put your turn signal on it goes full bright. Well our cars don't have that, so I snipped the nub off the bulb which allows you to insert it backwards and thus lighting both elements, so in other words, brighter clear corners and not that dim yellowish look.
.) Installed a new knock sensor, they tend to fail on these cars, I think Nissan tightened them down from the factory too much because all the failed ones, mine included were cracked and split down the center. Installing the new knock sensor freed up a shitload of power because the ECU is actually advancing timing to knock detection now.
.) Changed the spark plugs with 6 new NGK coppers with the V-slit in the electrode. Good cheap plugs. I hear these are the best, except they wear much faster than the platinums.
.) Changed the fuel filter out for a 300ZX fuel filter
.) Replaced both front heated O2 sensors
