Chaks's 2000 Ford ZX2

This is my 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 S/R one of only 2000 made in year 2000. I purchased this very cheaply with a busted transmission and a number of other issues that needed to be dealt with. A few of the S/R specific parts have been swapped out for stock ZX2 parts: the gauge cluster, intake, and rims. This is currently a project car. I intend to daily drive the car and hopefully also use it for autocross racing.

The car as it is today, I had to replace the fender hence why it is a different color. I plan on having that as well as the Celica spoiler and the trunklid repainted to match the rest of the car as soon as I get the opportunity.

News & Updates

04/15/09 - Well I got laid off from work earlier this week. I have enough saved up to at least get this car registered. I found a decent salvage yard, and pulled some parts from a ZX2 there. Today I washed the car and installed some of those parts. the front end is apart while I work on replacing the header and headlights.

04/26/09 - The header panel and door seal I had ordered from Ford Arrived. I Installed the door seal, was to dark to work on swapping the header.

04/25/09 - Well I was going to get a trubendz exhaust but ended up getting a stock setup for a deal i couldnt pass up. Today I installed it, works and is much better than the rusted junk I pulled out that had no muffler. I also ordered the header panel and door seals I need.

03/18/09 - I recieved a set of factory floormats and a replacement dipstick. The former dipstick had a broken pull. I also found evidence that a mouse might have been in the car so I set some traps. Well I already caught one with the traps, good news is I do not think it has done any damage, just brought some debris into the passenger footwell.

03/10/09 - I haven't updated much as I have not really done much with the car over the winter. I did get a car cover for it to keep is a little better rather than just under the snow. I also started a new job since my last update that pays better than my old job so money for upgrades will be a little less restricted. I am starting to collect parts to finish this. I just bought some stock floormats to keep the interior a little nicer, aftermarket ones usually look bad.

12/21/08 - I have not been able to work on the car much this fall only a little bit here and there but nothing major. Still starts right up and runs decently well. I just found a new job so I should have some money to put towards the project. Right now the car is buried in snow but I plan on getting it registered this spring.

08/16/08 - I got new pictures finally. I will get them up here as soon as I figure out the new damn page editor (This thing is annoying, why will you not let me use the old way cardomain? I actually like Coding my page it is exact.)

08/15/08 - I pulled the stereo and hooked it and the HVAC controls up. Everything seems to work although for some reason I have no sound out of the rear speakers at all, also the front right speaker seems to be blown. I also managed to free the sunroof cover so now I can close it.

08/13/08 - I cleaned up the interior a bit and I replaced the broken center console and missing inner kick panels with grey pieces from an Escort sedan. I also discovered that the cloth panel under the sunroof is stuck open.

08/12/08 - Brought the car home finally, a contact of mine has a trailer and had some time available. He also does paint work and I might have him paint my fender spoiler and trunklid.

08/09/08 - Finally got the car back together and running. My friend Jorge and I got the intermediate shaft in and all the remaining odds and ends back together. While I was there I also grabbed some interior parts from parts cars Jorge had behind his garage.

07/29/08 - Worked on swapping in the transmission. Beside the transmission, I realized the transmission leaked fluid all over the clutch ruining it and requiring me to replace it which I did. Also two bolts that hold the crossmember onto the subframe broke off so I was forced to replace the subframe, fortunately we had one on site and available.

07/19/08 - Drove to PA and picked up a transmission for the car from someone I know through the forums.

06/27/08 - I purchased the car.

Thanks you. The Interior is where I spend my time. Hence the effort I've spent in making it one of a kind. I like what you have done to your car. It hase progressed really well. Keep it up. Rich

I just wanted to let you know that I joined your group ERDT today. I've been to the site years ago, but haven't recently. I spend a lot of time on TeamZX2. I'll have to stop by ERDT again sometime soon.

Thanks for the comments. I don't think I've ever seen a ZX2 before. Nice car and 5*. Keep up the good work.
