I first started looking for my second 300zx early in 2007 after my Z31 turbo crapped out on me one day. I didn't want to put the money into the Z31 as it didn't give me the joy as a Z32 did. I searched for a twin-turbo at first. I missed the speed from my first Z32TT when I lived in Florida. I searched for a few weeks and when I couldn't find one near me, I considered the option of a twin turbo conversion. Slicktops and convertibles were my only option as I did not like the look of the 2+2 (and coupled with the fact that I hate carpooling).

After searching yet again for a few weeks, I found a black 1993 slicktop 300ZX that looked promising. With 150k miles on the clock, manual, black exterior on black interior, paint looks fantastic and priced at only $4500... too good to be true. Owned by a retired E-8 in the Navy, it instilled a trustworthy feature within the seller as I am in the military, too. I decided to shoot him an email and find out the facts on the car. He told me it ran great, although there were a few issues with it. Very minor problems like bulbs being burnt out and tires needing to be replaced, I told him to hold it for a few days while I thought about it. You see, he lived about 1500 miles away from me and I would buy this car unseen. The pictures looked very nice and I trusted him. I had plans for this car anyways, so it would have bothered me if something went the wrong way. I just needed to make it back to Washington alive.

As time crept by, I slowly convinced myself that I needed THIS car. I gave him a call and we spoke for a little while, finally agreed upon a final price of $4300, within my budget by a longshot. I had him deliver my car to a fellow Z owners house awaiting pickup by the shipping company. One week, two weeks, three weeks went by and no shipping truck came to pick it up. I NEEDED to have the car. I called up my friend and told him I'm buying a ticket tonight and I'm driving it back home. Three days later, I was on a jet to Los Angeles.

As we decended down towards the city, I grew with excitement. I was finally going to drive my Z. I've not set a foot in one since my last twin turbo was sold over two years ago. I kept telling myself in that time that I would drive another one. The feeling... the passion of driving a Z is indescribable. A Z is not like any other car you have ever driven, it's a drug and I needed more of it.

I flagged down a taxi and off I was to my buddies house to pick it up. He told me he wouldn't be home, so he put it in a secret hiding spot and let me know. We were driving down the street and from three blocks away, I spotted it. In all its glory... it was my car. Sitting there, waiting for me to get in and drive it to its new home.

I thanked the taxi driver (which I am sure was tired of me blabbering about why I was in L.A.) and paid my dues. After walking around the car for a few minutes, soaking it all in, I found my keys and opened up the door. I marveled at the sleek, black interior - it flowed so smoothly. It felt like I was in a fighter jet, ready to take off into the sky. You see, when you sit in the Z, an almost uncanny resemblance to having everything appears. Your mood changes, your attitude... your thoughts. You become part of the car.

I started it up and upon the engine turning over, running on its own, it brought back memories. It brought back memories that only us Z owners have experienced. I remember nights of racing, cruising and just hanging out with friends. These memories are embedded in me, albiet dormant for that time, and this Z brought them back.

Aside from the mushy stuff, it was a long drive back to Washington. I drove through L.A. for a few hours before I left on my journey. It wasn't very eventful, but very pleasing. Finally having my Z after a long wait, I couldn't help but smile the entire way back. I stopped at my aunt & uncles house half way back and stayed the night. It was great to see them again.

I reached my destination a day and a half after I left L.A.. After reaching home, I needed to rest. I had to get up to work in a few hours. All I could think about is what I was going to do to it first.

Nothing happened but basic maintainence stuff for the first few months as I had to save for a twin turbo swap anyways. I was scheduled to deploy overseas for 5 months anyways, so I decided to save up and do as much as I can after the fact. Just before I came back to the states, I bought my front clip and a bunch of aftermarket parts to install on the Z. Full 3'' exhaust, intake, ecu, boost controller, clutch/flywheel, side mount intercoolers, wheels/tires and basic maintenance items. I started with installing the wheels and tires first. I moved onto removing the motor and other parts out of the clip to get ready to be installed in the slicktop. It was all going well until I got word that I was deploying again in two weeks.

All wasn't lost though. I was upset that I didn't finish the swap all at once, but I was happy because I would be able to invest more money into my pride and joy. So here I sit now, deployed, writing this. So until I am finished with the swap, this page is pretty much staying the way it is.

My 1993 slicktop 300ZX Twin Turbo project underway...
