This is my 2001 Mustang GT. I haven't done much to it yet, but like most, it's a work in progress!
I came across this car when a friend of mine needed some Jeep work done. He has several stangs, including 2 Fox body Saleens. I had been talking about getting another stang, and he made me an offer I couldn't refuse on this '01 GT. The car had a slight bottom end knock, but otherwise it was in great shape.
After much reading, research, and debate, I decided to install a Junkyard motor to get me going. At around 25MPGs, this car is actually my economy car for now, so I wanted to get it on the road ASAP! I found a engine from a 2002 GT that had 44K on it and swapped her in. This ended up being a fairly easy job (I work on cars a lot), and I had her up and running in a couple days :)
I am selling off the Heads and Intake from the old engine, but plan to build up the block with forged parts... eventually.
Next, I removed the stock Mach 460 stereo, and installed a much better system (see specs below). At least now if I get tired of hearing the exhaust, I can overpower it with music.
This isn't my first stang, I had a 86 GT that I regretfully sold back in 2003. The good thing is I had a bunch of magazines lying around from that time period, when my car was the "newest thing".
I found an article where they ported the upper intake, and on a fully stock engine, they gained 10RWHP. Well "free" power is always welcomed, so I ported and polished mine in my spare time at work. Although I'm sure it's not the most accurate, my head unit has a built in HP meter. I did a before test and got a baseline of 242WHP. This suprised me because that should be about right for my setup, so far this meter seems to be more accurate than I thought. I have yet to do another run with the new intake, because you have to "drag" it for 15 seconds to test it, and I just installed it yesterday. This mod did help throttle response, and it feels like it helped, so it will be interesting to see what the meter says... stay tuned!
