I recently acquired this car from the second owner. After two years of talking about it with him I finally brought it home. It needed a bath, but overall this car is in amazing condition. It's been sitting for a year so the brakes need a little work. I've also got an IPD 22MM sway bar to clean up and install. The only other plans that I have for it are dumping the 3 speed automatic transmission in favor of a 4 speed overdrive transmission and possibly upgrading the cam. Of course plans change and I'm sure I'll wind up dumping countless hours and $$ into it! I've lost count of how many old Volvo's I've owned over the years, but I think that this is the 8th 140. It won't be the last Volvo that I ever own, but I'll be the last owner of this old Volvo.
The basics:
-250k miles
-BW35 transmission
-Stock B20 engine with dual SU HIF6 carbs
-KYB Gas Adjust shocks

7/21/08 update:
The previous owner mailed me all the receipts for work that he had done. Turns out that the actual miles on the car are about 70,000 less than what the odometer shows. The gauge cluster was replaced with a used unit that had more miles than the original. The shop that he used diagnosed that the carbs will probably need to be rebuilt or replaced. Apparently the needles and jets are worn. I already knew about this but it runs well enough for now. Replacement brake lines are on order. I've replaced rear rotors, pads, and one of the calipers. While crawling around underneath it I discover that it has cherry bomb mufflers installed. Well, at least the car sounds sporty! 22mm IPD front sway bar is freshly bead-blasted, painted, and installed. Once the brakes are sorted I need to replace the motor mounts. Carbs probably need to be rebuilt sooner than later. I also installed a pair of red/clear/red tail lights in place of the orange/clear/red tail lights.
8/15/08 update:
I finally got around to installing new rear brake lines today, but I whimped out of bleeding the system due to the heat. 104* is just too hot for me. I did take a few minutes and install the Hella H3 driving lights today.
9/23/08 update
Brakes are done. Had a work party with some other local Volvo nuts over the weekend. We got the in tank sender fixed, cut 1.5 coils off the front springs, and finished wiring the driving lights. Didn't get to the motor mounts or cam, those will have to wait until next time. I put on the 15" steelies from a 740 because they were cheap with new tires. I adapted the original center caps to fit and I'm kind of digging the look.
