cincinnattirice's 2002 Lamborghini Murcielago

cincinnattirice's 2002 Lamborghini Murcielago

In designing the car what qualifications did the frame designer have?
The Attack was built be team of engineers and car racers. The father of concept frame finished the highest Education University of Industrial Design Transportation faculty. This gentleman works for AUDI and Volkswagen in Germany.

How is the car expected to handle? I would want such a car to handle extremely well. I love the handling of the Mazda Miata, which is world renown for it's handling and want something similar.
O.K. well, I hope we dont make you sad saying that Miata would not be any competition to the Attack. This vehicle is close to a race machine. The whole suspension trajectory is only 4cm (1,57"). It is tough & sporty suspension, made and designed especially for this vehicle only, by a company, who makes the racing suspension for Audi Racing Team.

IS the weight distribution close to 50/50? Is this possible with your car?
Well, this is hard to say at the moment, because we are still developing some details and some things are not finished yet. For example the fuel tank. We are not sure of the final volume of the fuel tank, so this will influence the distribution a lot. Also the battery location is not 100% definite. We will do the best to help the ideal distribution. In fact, the 50 to 50 is not ideal at every circumstances. When the engine is located at the rear (even it is called mid-engine, it still is mainly in the rear position) and you are using bigger tires in the rear combined with rear wheels drive, you need a little more weight at the rear for the best performance. You like to control the rear wheels slide instead of front control loose, right?

The tube frame design of your car looks very functional and strong. Will it meet current DOT crash requirements in the US so that I can drive this on the road legally?
We are working on the crash testes in Europe. This is a very big thing and according to our law, we dont need to pass the crash test until the year production is higher than 100 pieces per year. But we like to prove the frame, so we will do it sooner or later. That test is over 100 thousand dollars, by the way...

Anyway, how many of Cobras or Lotus Seven or GT-40s you know, which passed that crash test? I never heard of any... But you can see them cruising around every day. Those are cars of the same category - using custom frame and body with factory made moving parts.

How safe is this car in the even of a crash, it has no crumple zones and the force transmitted to the drive may be high.
As far as tested on "AUTOCAD 2" PC program, yes, it is O.K.

Are the roll bars functional?
Of course they are. 6 times more overloaded than the weight of actual vehicle.

Is it possible to have a full roll bar over BOTH passenger and driver, not just the style bars over each head?
Yes, sir. We can do this for you. But I have to inform you, that this is less reinforcement and safety per each person.

What type of finish is on the body and frame?
Frame is silver or gold zinc plated, body is featuring the finest and polished color gel coat, ready to paint without fixing any of those typical surface defects.

What is the weight of this car?
Still in development, but we are pushing the weight to the 850 kg limit (1870 lbs).

The styling of the car is very striking and the lines are beautiful. But how functional are the aerodynamics of the car?

We simulated a smoke test on the 1:5 model, and accommodate some lines against the air cavitations, but the final effect will be tested on the racetrack as soon as the vehicle will be totally ready. Scheduled March 2002.

Is it suitable for high speed driving safely?
Attack is specially designed for high-speed application.

Will the aerodynamics package allow for enough down force to keep the car firmly planted at speeds in excess of 100 mph?
I appreciate this question, because I am glad to explain that we did not forgot on this. The car is very wide and relatively short and at that speed, it may flip over from the road, floating the front end. Thats why the big intake opening in front is so deep and is making the needed down force to the front of the vehicle.

I noticed that the car is still being worked on and might have some time before it is ready to be released. Have you thought of the possibility of including a smooth body under tray for the car?
That is the way it is, sir. 100% smooth aluminum sheet under the whole vehicle. Thats why the frame consists of the square tubes at the lower part and strictly tubular tubes at upper.

It would allow for MUCH better aerodynamics and better fuel economy. Would it be possible to have some sort of a roof option for this car? I would love to drive it everyday when it comes out but sometimes it rains here.
The roof will be done after a little while after the car production starts. It will be available as soft and hardtop.

Will there be any area for storage in the car?
A lot. It is surprising, but true. Behind the seats, under the front hood, in the side panels under the doors and behind the engine, like Lambo made on Fiero has. All of these are pretty big spaces.

What about the interior? Will that be supplied as well?
Yes, complete package.

Lastly, although I find the car to be extremely attractive I did have some criticisms, which I thought I might share with you. I find the shock towers that protrude from the hood to not look good. Perhaps it is possible to have the shocks lower under the hood so that they dont stick up, it messes up the cars otherwise great looks.
This is the way we think they look "cool". We are progressively adding design features to things, which normally are just functional. Isnt it the same as with muffler or alloy wheels? Muffler is just an exhaust pipe, but why do you love to chrome it and advertise it as much as possible?

The bladed side mirrors also look bad. Perhaps mirrors of the same design of the Evoluzione could be used? Those are much more sexy looking.
Well, the car is light. These mirrors are light and evocate a light feeling. Something like spider legs. EVOs mirrors are heavy and look that way. EVO is 3700 pounds vehicle...

Lastly I am not sure if the pictures on your website are accurate but I wondered about air flow from the ducting on the car. It seems that there is a lot of body reinforcement under the hood of the car which is where the radiator is located. This looks like it might obstruct the hot air from the radiator from leaving the hood at the best place; where the shocks exit a hole in the hood. Perhaps better reinforcing with less bulk may aid in airflow around the radiator and help cooling? The same for the engine compartment. Are those vents on top functional? How about the air scoops on the side of the car? Will they help vent the engine compartments hot gasses?
These vents are multi functional. Normally, they will cool down the engine compartment by flowing fresh air and releasing it through the rear grills. But if someone will swap bigger engine, he will add radiators there. Or automatic transmission cooler, or oil cooler. We are locating the radiator in front only for the weight ratio.

And finally when is the expected release date for the car?
Beginning of 2002. March is planned.

What about using the bigger Honda Engines?
The Attack will accept exactly the same engine or modification as any regular Honda Accord. The Attack engine compartment and its mounts are an exact copy of Hondas engine compartment, but a lot bigger space is available. So, what ever you can swap or install under the Honda Accord hood, the same thing you can easily swap into the Attack.

The dimensions of Attack engine compartment are following:

Length: 76 cm = 30 inch
Width: 77 cm = 30,5 inch
Height: 58 cm = 23 inch

This is enough room for a V-8 long block...

What are the base dimensions of the Attack?

Length 4040 mm (159,0 inch)
Width 1860 mm (73,2 inch)
Height 1055 mm (41,5 inch)
Wheel Base 2440 (96,0 inch)
Weight cca 850 kg (1870 lbs)
w/Mirrors 1980 mm (77,9 inch)

What about the wheels and bolt patterns?

The front of the car is equipped with an Audi TT Coupe bolt pattern and center hole. That is the same as any middle class Volkswagens has. It is 5-100. The rear of ATTACK is original Accord, so it is 4-114,3. The offset (we call this ET and it is distance in from the horizontal center line of the wheel to the mounting pad) in front is ET-35mm, 8Jx18". At the rear, the offset is the same as in front, BUT! We used a metal adapter from 4-114,3 to a 5-100, because we were using a set of 4 wheels for Audi/VW. This adapter is a 1,9 inch thick, so the regular offset for Attack without the adapter will be ET-35mm + the 1,9 inch you should have no problem buying a set of wheels using these bolt patterns.

What parts are exactly needed from the Accord donor?
Well, simple shortcut to this answer would be: buy one, even crashed. The parts list is pretty long. Basically the engine with whole cradle tranny, drive shafts, rotors, brakes, a-arms, plus all those special heavy duty safety bolts, shifting, wiring, hinges, windshield, wiper mechanism, radiator, fuel lines & sensors, gauges, pedals, brake booster, clutch & brake cylinders, steering housing, steering rod, catalyst converter & exhaust pipe, battery, heating radiator, all levers and buttons and much more.

Is the car available with HID (Xenon) lights?
The head lights are supplied exclusively for K-1 Styling by main German manufacturer and are available in HID-Xenon version as factory offered option.

Are all the lights on Attack DOT approved? Are they legal for use in USA?
The original Attack headlights were used from factory made Peugeot and even they were extremely beautiful, after the negotiations with main German manufacturer, we redesigned the front of the car to accept the new lights. They are now supplying us with two different sets of lighting: European SAE certified and US DOT approved units.

Will the kit be available as a RHD car, as well?
Yes, we are planning to accommodate the car to UK, Japan and Australian market as soon as it will be introduced in USA and we will see the demand more exactly.

I just saw your new Honda ATTACK in the new issue of kit cars, then visited your website. It says that the donor car is a 90-96 Honda Accord. Can it be any model of this car, or only specific models?

It is possible to use older or younger donor, but the car was made to fit to that range of years exactly. You may need several components to buy separately, then. The best is to go with 1990 to 1993 Accord.

It says this design is mid-engine, rear wheel drive. As you know, there are no rear wheel drive Honda accords...and the engine is in the front. What kind of modifications would have to be done to the vehicle to accommodate your kit?
The whole drivetrain is token from the front of Accord and is installed to our frame in the same direction, but in the rear. So, your original front wheel drive is the same thing, but rear wheel drive now

As you also know, Honda accords are hardtops, not convertibles as shown in the new Honda Attack. What kind of top would this vehicle use...and what kind of modifications would have to be done to the car to accommodate this design?
It is a complete new vehicle, based on custom made tubular chassis. Accord is just a donor of spare parts here.

Lastly, you say the installation is simple with no welding and no cutting. With all the features of this car, how can this be true? Seems like this would be extremely difficult, especially if you are not familiar with cars. About how many hours would installation take if taken to a body shop?

As said above, we supply the frame and the body, so you are just reinstalling those needed parts from Honda to the Attack. Hours its hard to say I can build it in one week alone; someone else needs 5 month...

Is the estimated 15K kit price in US dollars, or European dollars?
God! I wish we had European dollars No, the price is announced in US dollars, sir!

If interested in a turnkey, how would you get the car from Europe to the United States?

We do have a representative in the USA, they will take complete care of any customer.

Where is your representative located in the US? I would definitely like to visit them and take a look at this attack in person. Does he have any turnkeys for sale? Let me know, and thanks.
Our US distributor is a company called "Euro-Works Ltd." in OHIO, phone: (937) 293-6834, or e-mail them to: {info@euroworksltd.com} they will be glad to assist. If, at any circumstances, you need any information or have any specific questions for us directly, do not hesitate to contact us anytime at E-mail address: {k1@k1-styling.sk}, Phone No.: 011-421-905 700 686

What's with the rear wheel steering? Is it just for parking?
Yes, only. For better security during driving.. You never know what might happen. Even Dodge Stealth has troubles with this matter. A little mechanical defect and the car is immediately out of control.
Why is it necessary?
No, it is not. It is just a "nice&cool" feature. It will be a shame to not use the existing steering from Accord.
And how is the exhaust routed?
Original.
Will aftermarket headers work?
Yes, perfectly!
How do you get the rear suspension of a front wheel drive car to bolt up to a rear drive car?
The whole drivetrain is based on a solid steel cradle. Motor, tranny, a-arms with struts and etc... There are only new shocks needed, but they are included in the base kit.
Overall I think the Attack is everything I am looking for in a car; a dream come true. I think seeing a review of the car in one of the compact car performance magazines would open a lot of peoples eyes to kit cars and benefit your company a bit (if the car is ready for sales)
The prototype is ready and the first production cars will appear from March 2002. Thank you for heaving such a good taste!
How do you have the shifting linkage set up on the Attack?
The linkage on Honda is a "steel wire" type and of course is a little short for our application. Due to a fact that we use original shifter stick mechanism and original transmission, we just created a special adopter to lengthen the original linkage.
I am trying to find out if it will be plausible for me to use a different engine and transmission. Whatever combination I choose will have to be a standard/manual transmission and have no idea on how you could pipe the shifting linkages up front.
As I said, pretty easy... By the way, we prefer manual tranny with this car as well

You state that 1990-1993 Accords are recommended, what parts are incompatible from the 1994-1996 Accords?
It looks like all parts on both model types are identical, and 96 ACCORD looks 99,99% O.K. for the Attack as well as the previous model. Honda announces us, that there was just a factory made face lifting. We created our concept vehicle on 1991 ACCORD 4 door, so we know, that 1990-93 fit 100%.

Are the molded seats adjustable front to back (do they use seat rails)?
The driver seat is adjustable, yes.

Can they be flipped up for access to the storage area behind the seats?
Yes, both seats do this with a push to release latch mechanism.

Will the rear wheel spacers be available for purchase from K-1 or can they be purchased normally? I believe it would look silly with 5 stud front and high offset 4 rear.
Right, the spacers are available from us, but there are many wheel types, which use lug covers, so we recommend this way from safety and proffesionality point of view....

The side windows for the soft -top, how are they mounted? I assume they are not retractable into the doors like conventional windows.
Sure, Attack is representing a lightweight automobile era - DO NOT EXPECT LUXURY FEATURES. Side windows are detachable in seconds, but nor rolling UP/DOWN.

How quick/easy will the soft top be to put on and remove once installed?
1 MINUTE. Everything is designed to operate CLICK-ON latches. PUSH TO RELEASE, PUSH TO LOCK.

Do build instructions come with the kit and if so what type are they, written, photos, video, etc.? Do the instructions also cover the disassembly of the donor car?
Yes, full step-by-step story, including the disassembly process. It will be available on both, the CD or VIDEO TAPE.

I would also like to say that you have designed a beautiful car. I hope it performs as well as it looks.
Well one experience is more than hours of explanation! Be ready for test drive soon!

I must also add that I question some of your design decisions, such as custom front suspension (why not use another Accord front suspension?)
Because of different weight ratio.

Factory designed head lights are raising the price.
But are adding lot more CLASS to the car.

I would like to inquire about the application of factory options to the "Attack" kit. I am curious as to whether or not options such as the air conditioning system,
YES - but would need the freon refill

front window defogger/defroster,
YES

and sound system will still be functional after completion of the kit.
YES

If not, would it be relatively easy to have the systems installed at a custom shop? Also, what are the wheel widths (widest possible) and tire sizes used on the 19-inch wheel set?
At rear, there is almost NO LIMIT... At front about 255-19"

Whats the HP rating of the chassis?
Anything up to 400 HP should be fine

In the UK we are required to have: A. a rear fog light, B. a reverse light. I cannot seem to see any provisions for this in the current rear light console.?
We are offering all kinds of light combinations. Both light you mentioned are available in stock as US or EUR norms.

Are the front headlights adjustable - I need to be able to adjust the headlights for it to pass the SVA test.
Sure. 100% all directions.

Where does the radiator sit ?
Just behind the front lip.

How much legroom does the attack have (it looks ample)
Persons from 165cm up to 196cm are comfortable sitting there, with plenty of space. Anyhow, PEDALS are ADDITIONALY ADJUSTABLE, as well as the DRIVER SEAT, so it should really fit to anyone...

Are you able to supply all the body panels pre painted.
Yes.

What model engines can the attack handle, I would like to put a H22A into it.
NOT A PROBLEM

Where did you get those 19 wheels?
IN AUSTRIA D&W catalogue

Do you supply the exhaust system and use the default manifold.
We use original INTAKE and EXHAUST manifolds for the base cars. THE ORIGINAL TUBE FITS UNDER THE ENGINE, just got to be shorten a bit.

Does the Attack use standard Attack drive shafts
YES
