I saw this at R&R Marine in Shakopee MN when my friend Shawn and I went to test drive a Camaro at the seedy used car place next door. To make a long story short, the Camaro sucked, we saw the Scirocco sitting on the other side of a drainage ditch and I knew I had to have it. I took out a loan thanks to Dale at the bank and bought the car (apparently right out from under another Ben). It's been in storage since fall 2001 after an unfortunate incident with the headlight switch. After a year's worth of fruitless searching (I'm still a VW newbie) I finally found another switch, but by then another summer had passed by. I hope to have the car out and driving for spring/summer 2003. Keep your fingers crossed folks. As a side note people seem to mistake this car for a Mustang, in the two months I drove it before I put it in storage I had three people (obviously not car folks) tell me that I had a nice Mustang. Sometimes it's just better to smile and nod...
Funny thing is CarDomain doesn't have much in the way of VW companies listed for their vehicle info categories, so here's a list:
1.6L bored out to 1.8L
9.5:1 compression ratio
Bertil's 8 valve head with red Bertil cam cover
Balanced and blueprinted (by Bertil I assume)
Drake adjustable cam gear
Dual Weber 45MM DCOE sidedraft carbs
Crane cam (.440 lift, 275 deg. duration)
Supersprint header
Techtonics Tuning race exhaust, no cat, Monza tip
Bosch Platinum plugs
External oil cooler with Aeroquip plumbing
Euro GTI 5-speed
Hurst shifter w/ golf ball knob
Eibach progressive springs
Bilstein sport shocks
Upper and lower strut bars
Stiffer front (22MM) and rear (19MM) sway bars
GTI rotors and calipers in front, stock drums in back
GTI brake booster and master cylinder
VDO oil pressure and temperature gauges
13" BBS wheels
Yokohama AVS Intermediates, 205s
Ditzler Radiance II paint
Momo Cobra wheel
Wink mirror
Kamei rear lip spoiler
Volksport stickers :-)
Brand spankin' new headlight switch
Minnesota collectors plates (no buying tabs and no emissions if they ever reinstate it)

Future plans:
Bleed brakes and get better pads, probably Ferrodo
Decide whether I want to bother with better brake lines
Get someone to give the body a good once-over
Balance carbs and adjust mixture
Make sure timing is properly set
Sachs sport clutch
Clean up the wires behind the dash
Replace cracked headlight lens
Upgraded radiator of some sort
Corbeau seats
Maybe get a working radio, something suitably old school, no CD player
Possible rear disc conversion if I get really bored
This is the car being put into storage the fall after I bought it. It's been sitting in a garage since 2001. I've been doing my best to run gas through it and keep things in top shape.

The ever-elusive headlight switch...
