WarmAndSCSI's 2001 Mitsubishi Galant

This is my pride and joy. I've owned this Galant since 2004 and she's been through quite a bit. She has gone through 4 separate engines, 3 transmissions, a complete rear-end restoration post-accident, and numerous sets of tires. =)

I first delved into forced induction with a Vortech centrifugal supercharger-based kit from RIPP Mods. It was a decent setup, but it had its major flaws and I ended up moving to a proper turbocharger setup. Overall that's been the best decision I've made with this car. The powerband is so much better now with the turbocharger and having full boost from 3800 RPM to redline is great!

What I've most enjoyed about this project is having had the opportunity to do every bit of labor myself - from head porting and polishing and engine building, to routine brake jobs. I did my first engine rebuild on her after toasting the stock pistons trying to run 14 PSI on stock ring gaps. Then I moved onto a fully-built lower end that was plagued by spun rod bearings until I learned what it took to build a reliable 6G72 bottom end. Replacing pistons on this setup has become pretty routine. I'm almost positive I'm the only one pushing this much power against these custom CP pistons, and I believe they are just flawed - too thin of a top ring land. That said, I'll be rebuilding after race season this year and switching over to some VR-4 pistons with proper-height top ring lands.

The ultimate goal for this car was to build the fastest, highest-horsepower 8G Galant in the country, if not the world, and be able to hit the track at any time while still daily driving it. I finally have the chance this year to test out the road racing ability of this car at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT. Plenty of video of that and this year's drag racing will be soon to follow. I'm pretty sure this year I'll be able to break even more records with this car. But the point is to have fun, and God knows this car provides ample amounts of it, even when I'm just driving to and from work.

I hope you enjoy reading about all I have done to my car over the years, and it would be great if you can draw some inspiration from what I've done for your own car. Please take the time to rate my car and I'll be sure to return the favor. Thank you for your interest and thanks for reading!

hey I really like your ride, I have a 96 galant and I think I just spun a rod bearing. I cant decide if I want to bother fixing it or buy a new car. I just found a 2001 gtz and after seeing your galant I might just have to buy it. 5 stars.
