Hey thanks for stopping by to check out my 1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 5 CP9A GSR.

I've had the car since June 2006, I traded my 1996 Mitsu Lancer GSR Turbo 4wd and upgraded to the Evo 5. Mods are always ongoing, as are the updates on my page. Remember to stop by my page every now and again to check out progress.

Check out page number 3, I've got a brief history including pics of the Mitsubishi Evolution family. You can also read up a bit more of the technical info about the Evo 5.

Below is a photo history of my Evo 5. The oldest pics are at the top, progressing to the most recent at the bottom. I might eventually split my pages out into exterior, interior, mods etc.

Feel free to post a comment, and rate my ride. I will return the favour. Also while you are checking out my ride, please take the time to vote in my poll about repainting my brake calipers.

This is the Evo a few weeks after buying it. I had already fitted the ANZ 18" Bronze wheels and D2 adjustable coil over suspension. The car originally came with Cusco coilovers, but the front passenger shock was stuffed. Unsure about the condition of the rest of the shocks, I replaced all four corners and got an aggressive suspension tune set up.

Photo of the stock engine. It didn't stay like this for long. First upgrades made were a Turbosmart Evo Blow Off Valve and a Simota Pod Filter.

Parked up on a Sunday Cruise.

I'd entered to drag race but the clutch was slipping to f@*k, decided was best not to race as still had to make 60 minute drive home from the dragstrip. Got the car into the shop to replace the clutch, my mechanic found that a spring had burst out of the clutch! He said it was only moments away from terminal failure! Replaced with an Exedy HD clutch. I had replaced the OEM orange front indicator lenses with black units at this stage too.

Caught boosting on the street! Photo taken by NZ Police Speed Camera. Caught doing 78kmh (48.5mph) in a 50kmh (30mph) area. Not much over the speed limit, but still resulted in a NZ$230 fine!

My mate sold me some parts from his Evo 5. I brought a custom alloy cold air box, alloy intake pipe with Samco Hosing and the best score, a Greddy Type R Blow Off Valve. Fitted the K&N X-Treme filter when fitting the airbox.

As in the photo above too, I brought some angel eye headlights, I fitted these with H1 and H7 8500k bulbs. These required modification to the inner guard to get them to fit, was well worth it in the end!

As part of my exterior plan for the Evo, I brought a carbon fibre bonnet. The beauty of having an Evo, is that you can on sell parts you upgrade. The bonnet was NZ$750, and I sold my OEM alloy bonnet for NZ$500, so the bonnet only cost me NZ$250! This is a pic in my driveway, test fitting the bonnet. Got the bonnet fitted at Alan Wakeling Panelbeaters, they also mounted the J's Racing bonnet pins. I went with black bonnet pins, as I didn't really want them to stand out.

Time for performance upgrade! Brought a HDi Intercooler kit, with alloy piping. Decided to wrap all piping with exhaust wrap. Photo showing test fitting of intercooler piping.

As part of the upgrade, I also did some cosmetic work, I brought and fitted a silicone radiator hose set, and replaced various vacuum lines with silicone hose.

Test fitting the HDi Intercooler. The new size is 600mm (23.6in) x 300mm (11.8in) x76mm (3in). 50% larger in size, with 45% larger inlet ports than the OEM intercooler. It is rated up to 480hp. Check out how it is headlight to headlight wide!

I brought a Greddy air diversion plate to increase cooling. I brought it in silver, but then decided to paint it, as well as the cold air box with a black metal flake paint. This is photo showing test fitting of the painted parts.

Bumper refitted with ducting trimmed to clear intercooler piping. Ready to take for a test drive with new intercooler fitted.

smokeys_keepers's 1998 Mitsubishi Evolution

Parked in the drive after taking for test drive. Air temperature on the day was around 9 degrees celsius (48.2 farenheit). The Evo ran way cooler than before. I was expecting some lag running the bigger volume intercooler, but there was next to none!

Parked up in the driveway after a cruise in the rain. It's fun driving in wet weather, flick the steering wheel in the corner, hit the go pedal and get it sideways :)

Evo on  the dyno, Apexi Power FC installed and being tuned. Profec B Spec II boost settings also reset to low boost .85bar (12.3psi) and high boost of 1.3bar (18.8psi)

Dyno sheet from Apexi Power FC install. Power at the wheels 206.8kw (277hp) at 19.1psi and 1020Nm (750ftlb) torque at approx 4700rpm. Flywheel power around 270kw (365hp). Am happy with results, still running stock turbo.

Went for a cruise up the coast today. First real chance to see how much difference the ECU made. Feels great, you can really hear the turbo working under high boost! Parked up and took a couple of pics, first at Gulf Harbour Marina, second at Matakana Bay.

Photo of the Evo parked up in the driveway. Have to resist the temptation to plant the foot in the gravel and get all 4 wheels spinning lol

Took the mrs little brother to the airport, took some pics parked in the parking building. Got some good natural lighting for the pics. I want to go back to the same place at night and get some more pics. Check out the front on pic, you can see the thermal wrapped hot pipe!

Competed in the 2009 V 4 and Rotary Nationals at Meremere. It was dam hot, air temp was around 35 degrees C (95 Farenheit) In the car with helmet on and windows up it got up round 45 degrees C (113 Farenheit) I really need to work on my launching, I made three passes, each trialing a different launch style. the best time was 14.3 and the worse was a 15.0 I had 60 foot times averaging 2.2 secs and it was really costing me. I shouldve lowered tire pressures and maybe stripped out the interior (back seats, passenger seat, spare tyre) for a bit of extra performance. That will be next time lol I can't wait to get back down to the track for some more passes. I know I'm capable of quicker times, I just need to get my launches sorted!

Been a bit slack on updates for the Evo, priorities have changed over the past few months with my partner falling pregnant with our first child! I'm hoping for a son, partner want a daughter lol , Honestly I don't really mind at all what we have. Here's a pic from the 20 week scan last month, waving hi! Our baby is due in the end of September.
