ENGINE: M50B25 2.5 L (2494 cc)

The M50B25 is a 2.5L, DOHC 24-valve, I6 piston engine and has an 84 mm bore and 75 mm stroke and produces 192 hp @ 5900 (141 kW) and 184 ft-lb @ 4200 (250 N·m). The M50 was introduced in March 1989 to replace the BMW M20 and was replaced by the M52 in 1994. Displacement for the M50 series engines range from 2.0 L to 3.2 L. A Technical Update or M50TU version from 1992 introduced VANOS variable valve timing. When this technology was introduced, it was known as VACC or Variable Camshaft Control.

ENGINE MODIFICATIONS:

This version of the M50B25 features a custom cold air induction kit using 3” alloy tubing from the throttle body to rear of the driver’s headlight where a custom cone filter prevents any contaminants from entering the engines combustion chamber. The ASC (Automatic Stability Control) throttle body has also been removed to increase the flow of air into the engine which has also disabled traction control from the chassis. Throttle body heating system has been disabled and rerouted back into the cooling system, thus, resulting in cooler intake temperatures. The stock engine management has been upgraded for maximum performance using the Turner Motorsport Performance chip for the Non-Vanos engine.  Performance gains of 19 horses and 13 torque over stock have been made.  The governor has been removed and a top speed of 137mph have been reached. Redline has been moved from 6500rpm to 7000rpm as well.

Air-conditioning and Power-steering have been removed for less parasitic drag on the crank.  A 54” custom Gatorback serpentine belt has also replaced the OEM belt. The crankshaft driven fan has been removed and a new waterpump, lower temperature thermostat, and metal thermostat housing have been installed.  The radiator from a stock M44B19 has been used to help with cooling, quicker warm up and cool down.

Tubular exhaust manifolds from the S52B32 were utilized along with a M50B25 mid-section that features catalytic converters delete and 2.5” single pipe replacement, and a single twin tipped catback from a 2002 ///M Roadster.

FORCED INDUCTION

The newest addition to the mod family is a Turbonetics Hybrid T3/4 Trim 57 Turbocharger. This turbo will be seeing 6-10 regulated psi, horsepower goal is around 260-300whp with a good tune.

DRIVETRAIN:

This compact, Bavarian hotrod comes equipped with the Getrag S5D 250G 5-speed Manual transmission. A 240mm, unsprung clutch assembly from the Euro M3 is used to get the ~220 horses transferred from the engine to the driveshaft which drives the Medium-cased, 3.25 geared Limited-slip differential. Supporting the Limited-slip differential is an OEM ///M Roadster Finned differential cover for extra cooling and slightly increased fluid capacity.  The stock rubber bushing mount has been replaced with an AKG Polyurethane bushing for more stability from the power/drivetrain. E46 ///M3 engine mounts have been used to stiffen the engine and provide minimalistic torque loss due to an unstable drivetrain.  UUC Red Racing transmission mounts have also been installed for additional stability for the drivetrain. The shift assembly has been replaced with a short shift kit provided by Understeer which has reduced the shift throw by 50% and the stock shift knob has been replaced with a weighted, brushed aluminum shift knob made by UUC called the "Rob Knob".
