I bought this car in Febuary of 2008 with a blown motor. Lets say when the connecting rod on cylinder 3 snapped it shot it straight threw the block. You could literally reach in and touch the crankshaft. At our high school we have a program that allows you to leave during the day and go to our community college.
The first thing my classmates and I did was gut the engine compartment. We removed everything including the front wheels and cross member steering column all that stuff. Since the motor was blown I had to find a new block so I went to the junkyard and found a block out of a 2.0 dodge neon. I bought it and stripped it. Then took the block to our local machine shop to have it bored, honed and degreased. I bought a rebuild kit on ebay. to fill those bigger cylinders were JE 10.5:1 high compression pistons that were .040 over standard. To keep those babies on the crank during 7000rpms are eagle connecting rods.
Then I took the head to the machine shop for a 3 way angle valve job along with new 1mm oversized valves. It was milled, planed, and ported and polished. The cams are regretably OE, but I really didnt have the money, This is also my daily driver so it didnt need to be cammed. but I put on a high performance oil pump, water pump, and a new clutch I went with OE again because its a daily driver and I didnt want it to be too jerky.
We dropped the motor back in and bolted on a new JDM header back exhaust,AEM full cold air intake, Walbro 255lph racing fuel pump Optima battery, and The ECM was chipped also. And the big one a Nos fogger 50 horse power wet shot, with a 10lb bottle.
The body was done by Nathan Smoot, my teacher at Dacc (our community college), the flames on the front were marblized the body was reshot silver and the accents, such as wing, front emblem, air dams, reverse light housing, trunk tip ect. were shot with light green to maroon pearlescent.
The wing is after market and the sideskirts are aftermarket,(their wider than stock). The rims are 18in ADR m-sport. with Nexen 215/35/18 y speed rated tires at 186mph. Oh and I just installed and converted brand new GSX brakes.
I got the car running on May 30 08, and Ive been tearing up the streets in this purple mitsu.
