This is my 1992 Mazda MX5 (commonly known as Miata). It is white, with ABS and A/C.
The car also had Bilstein shocks and some sort of weird Vogtland springs, very stiff.
Here is the car at a small Miata track afternoon. The silver car next to mine is completely stripped for weight reduction, even the front headlight covers are missing and the lights replaced with a small single bulb!
The engine was running a bit rough (it also had 175,000 km on its back!) when i first got it so i proceeded to do a basic "service" job myself.
The first change i made only 3 days after i bought it was to fit a new exhaust to replace the VERY LOUD (and damaged) exhaust the car used to have.
I also did the following:
-Replaced OEM plug wires with Magnecor KV85 wires.
-Replaced spark plugs with NGK ZFR6F-11 ("long reach" plugs, not for turbo engines)
-I used Royal Purple 5W30 Oil (great oil and it is actually purple!) with a new Mazda oil filter. I had also tried Redline 10W30 but found the Royal Purple to work better and it also reduced HLA noise.
-Advanced the timing to 14 degrees.
With these basic things the engine was impressively quieter and smoother with more torque from low RPM.
The engine will soon be rebuilt with a turbo kit in mind.
Below are two pics with the basic track equipment:
Old used tires, jack, gloves, tools.
And a Miata! (the car is very dirty in the pics but i wasn't there for concours show)
You can see a video of some "silly" (just for fun) drift practice below:
Unfortuantely with little power, no LSD and a rough track surface (on a kart track no less, eats the tires like sandpaper) it is not easy to drift. Cucsco LSD coming soon.
