So i started this profile in '03 with a mitsubishi mirage (hence the login name) I signed in once, built the profile and never came back...until now. it's ridiculous to see how much i played up a mirage. i feel like less of a person for doing so. In any case, after a couple years i wrecked that car, rebuilt it and gave it to my brother who sold it a few years later. Legend has it, that car still roams the streets of Lake Worth Florida and every now and then i'll get a phone call from one of my friends who has a close encounter with it...there's no escape! -- I've seen the light though. I transferred my interests from cheap subcompacts to euros. Since that mitsubishi, i've owned a 92 BMW 325i, a 97 BMW M3, a 1983 Volvo 242, and my current love, a 1998 Volvo S70 T5. The practicality, safety features, and suprising performance won me over in the end.

This car came into my hands in March of 2008 with 127k miles on the odometer. i flushed out the system, changed out the battery and ran diagnostics on it. turns out it's in great shape, so i began my build. ipd has been a huge source of information and is my primary source for all things volvo. The first item i bought was a blackout euro grille and SRT5 short ram intake

immediately car looked and sounded more aggressive, and despite my wife's desire for a nice family car i decided i was gonna take this one. A couple weeks later i purchased an electronic boost controller/boost gauge and reverse intercooler piping, which allowed me to increase my boost to 13lbs (3 lbs. over the stock 10lbs.) with the factory ECU tune. i had a GReddy RS blowoff valve welded onto the RIP kit and installed everything the next day.

lol all the stuff pictured below is off the car and sold =)

With the increase in boost pressure, i began to think about air flow and restriction. the factory intercooler on these vehicles are suprisingly effective, so until i swap out the turbo, i should be good. The exhaust however was very restrictive, and so i removed the exhaust, deleted the muffler and increased the size of the piping to 2 1/2" from the catalytic converter back.

This easy and very inexpensive upgrade freed up a good amount of air and allowed for a little extra horsepower and torque, not to mention an amazing deep tone. My next plan of attack was the tune. I contacted Frank at EuroSport Tuning and had an ECU remapped to increase my fuel curve and once again increase boost to a modest 15lbs.

While deployed in Iraq, i tried to rack up a little bit of money to start building up the transmission and ignition system. On top of that, my suspension is still stock. I didnt rack up too much cash because of bills, but i did get the chance to buy an MSD igntion from ipd along with an anti-sway bar from them as well. Hopefully better spark plus the fuel curve tune will keep my connecting rods in tact for a little bit longer until i can purchase some higher quality ones

With the realizaton that i will not be running 20psi very soon, i opted to delete my blowoff valve. Sure it looks cool, and sounds allright, but it serves no real purpose over the factory bypass valve. Along with that, i replaced my electronic boost controller with ipd's heavy duty turbo control valve. Boost feels stronger and more even throughout the gears, and i couldn't be happier with the results. Next up were the soft damaged mounts. These new polyurethane replacements provided me with a sturdier feel and hopefully years of faithful service.

a few days ago i removed the reverse intercooler piping and installed an FMIC i made. so far, it's been working out amazingly, but i've been having to clear the occasional code due to deleting my SAS system. hopefully i can find the time to rewire a few things and avoid the CEL. until then, whatever. I have also purchased a port and polished head with a five angle valve job, so once i can get my cams, valves. guides. etc. i will build that and install it...

oh yea i got some BBS wheels

Hey man it's Drew from VS. I too suffered the split open T-stat..as well as the delicious scent of Aunt Jemima coming from the AC vents.

This summer after i graduate ill be investin in just about the same goodies you got here i have some but more is better. Summer cant come soon enough and either can my full time job. Nice T5. If your lookin for a manual trans theres a T5 locally that might go cheap due to some cosmetic issues. I might but it as a parts car but i already go 5-speed so yea.
