Wuppies’s Volkswagen Thing

    • Currently 3.4/5 Stars.

Hello all, my name is Erin and this is my car's page. I drive a 1973 VW Thing, yeah it's the Thing!!!! My Thing was featured on MTV's Pimp my Ride, it was the second car aired on the first season of GAS (Galpin Auto Sports) doing the show.

Here's a picture of my Thing back when I first got it.

And my poor old 1600 dual port engine, ugly huh, this got left at PMR and I believe they stuffed it into one of the later VW's, maybe even the green and blue bug.

Here is me with Xzibit and the whole GAS crew.

And here is some pictures of the Thing shortly after I got it back from Pimp my Ride

This picture is from a company called WebEx and they rented my car and invited my and my fiancee to their promotion for a new product launch up in San Francisco.  Their product launch party was called "Pimp my Workspace"  :)

Not sure if you noticed, but the chrome was beginning to rust so I removed all the bars around the car and powdercoated them black.  When the car was up at the party, they were already black.  We also put a streetglow gold series green underlight kit on the car, and put lots of blue lights in the interior.

Here is a picture of my engine bay right before I just had it repainted and had my engine upgraded, as well as my old exhaust piping and engine.

Wuppies's 1973 Volkswagen Thing Awww isn't it purty! ....... ahh no.

Getting in and scrubbing!

And the finished product.

Ceramic coated exhaust system, polished aluminum stinger!, high temp ceramic coated turbo.

High output polished alternator, polished pulley, chrome alternator stand, and black powdercoated engine plates and brackets.  Everything was scrubbed super clean and nice.  Oh yeah, the engine was painted flat black as well.  Pimp my ride to save time just rattle canned black over the factory orange, the orange was coming through, now there is no orange :)  New rubber seals and gaskets too.

Ok, so here is another update, the car is getting freshened up at VW Paradise in San Marcos and will be at the Extreme Autofest event in Del Mar California on Feb. 19th.  I hope to see you there.  Help me out and purchase some event tickets through me.

I just took the Thing to the first Extreme Autofest event of the year at the Del Mar Fairgrounds out here in California and won best VW and best 4x4.  Show was fun, very very loud, pretty bummed Streetglow didn't show up, had all my lights blaring.  It was also SUPER DUPER COLD!!!!

I have made the painful decision that it is time to go ahead and let the Thing go.  It is my baby but I am looking to get a house and I haven't driven this much at all in the last few years and I feel that it may be time for it to go to someone with more free time to take it to shows etc.  I'm starting the asking price at $39,000, please write to me if you are interested.

Sorry it's taken so long to update :)

I need to go find that episode. I can do w/o the excess monitors, but they can certainly clean up a nice classic from time to time.

I heard that when they pimp your ride you still have to pay for all of the modifications that they do to your car. Is that true? That is what I heard that all the shows that fix your car makes your pay for it afterwards.... I hopw not cause you have a sweet ride. Easy 5*****

I KNEW IT! pimp my ride beat your car up some to make it look worse didnt they? that thing was far too sharp the be the hunk of crud they had on the show. and alos are you serious? they were really too cheap to put good paint on your motor? thats sad on there part! thats sad you had to still work on it after they did, maybe if they would be so concerned with 19 tv's a water fall and a food court in a mazda then you could have had a hassel free car lol
