This is my '88 subaru RX coupe.
For those of you who are not familiar with the RX, it is the true precursor to the WRX:
Subaru simply took their standard compact car, the 1800/L series/Loyale/Leone, and added a turbo; body kit; and performance driveline, brakes and suspension. Then they called it a rally car, and they were right. These cars have absolutely phenomenal traction in all conditions and have tight, responsive steering that, combined with the "rally firm" suspension, makes the car handle incredibly in the tight twisties. With this experience, it's no wonder that the WRX was a smash hit from its outset in 1992 (JDM).Standard equipment on the RX in 1988 included:
115 hp 4 cylinder boxer engine,
A water cooled turbo charger-thus eliminating the need for a turbo timer,
Computer controlled multi-point fuel injection (MPFI),
Ten speed splitter manual transmission,
Full time 4WD (similar to AWD but with a locking center differential and a low range),
Limited slip center and rear differentials,
Four wheel disc brakes,
Fully independent suspension (MacPherson strut front, trailing arm rear),
Factory installed fiberglass aero kit and rubber spoiler,
Supportive, sporty seats,
Air conditioning,
Power mirrors, windows and locks,
50/50 folding rear seats,
And a sporty 3-door hatchback coupe body style.
