Under the hood...

The 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra or "Terminator" as Ford dubbed it, came factory supercharged (390hp). So from the get go i had some impressive power. With a 2.80 pulley on the stock blower it made 440/445. This was good enough to get me into the 11 second range. After some practice and time on the track I managed to pull off a 11.93@117 before going the ported route with the supercharger. I only made that single 11 second pass before the Ported and polished Eaton M112 made it under the hood. I tell ya, it was certainly hard taking the car down right after making my fastest pass. But we always want more, right?

You betcha!

The ported and exterior show polished Steigemeier Stage 4 Eaton was purchased along with the supporting mods of, a 2.76 Billetflow upper pulley, JLT Hi-Boost intake, 60lb injectors, SCT 2600 MAF Sensor, Kenne Bell Boost-a-pump, Reichard Racing Blower Spacer, and finally a Metco 2 lb lower pulley. All of this allows me to put in 16lbs of boost, and use it to its full potantial. With these mods, a SCT chip, and a custom tune by Devin at Performance Solutions Racing, it makes a reliable 494rwhp and 498 rwtq on the 91 octane pump gas here in Arizona. I have not made any pulls on race gas yet, but i am told it will be in the 510-520 range.

I also paid some attention to the cooling system on the car. I have added a Fluidyne Radiator, along with a Fluidyne heat exchanger. The heat exchanger really makes a substantial difference in the cooling of the compressed air that the supercharger forces into the engine. Along with those mods, i have added a LFP Radiator Resivour, and a LFP Ice box for the Heat exchanger system. The ice box allows me to add ice into the system and super cool the water as it flows through the system, which provides lower air temps going into the engine.

As for the mods done, the blower and all supporting mods where done by me in my garage. The only thing i was not able to pull off was the 2lb lower pulley. I could not get the force needed to break it free of the crank shaft. Let me tell ya, there is some damn strong force on that thing. Its amazing how tight that is on there. But with some good help from a few friends, we made the majority of the transformation to the ported setup happen. I plan to keep this setup and make it well into the 10 second range before adding any further power additions.

The only other mods to the engine have been the addition of an Accufab throttle body, a catch can on the pcv line to keep any oil out of the blower and a set of Billetflow pulleys. Otherwise, from underneath the blower to the oil pan, the 4.6L motor in my cobra has remained untouched. Though the exhaust has been fitted with a SS Catted Bassani X-pipe and a SLP loudmouth 1 exhaust system. And it sure makes the car rumble. I wanted to go with an offroad x-pipe, but it was just far too loud to even think about driving it in a residential area. The cats are high flow anyways, and do not take anything away from the power output.

The Catch can and the Huge Accufab Throttle body...

So far as the transmission is concerned, i am running a Spec stage 3+ clutch, with a Fidanza Lightweight flywheel. The input shaft has also been upgraded with a Liberty 26 spline unit. I am current running royal purples syncromesh oil in it too. Shifting is done through a PRO50 shifter.
