My buddy scot and I wanted to look for a old muscle car to start working on as a project to turn around in the end and sell for a profit. We originally wanted a lemans we found in the paper shop, but that was way too rotted out. We looked all all over untill we found a dart gt but just wasent into how much work it needed compared to the looks and how comon it was. finally we decided to look back into the paper shop and decided to call about a 1974 olds 442 for $2800 and it was in old forge where we live. So we went to look at the car and once we seen it we knew we wanted it. after talking to the guy and doin the my best to talk him down i mananged to get him down to $800. either im real good or he didnt realize what he had. the car needs floors and a little body work here and there, and were pulling the vinyl top off and painting it to match the car when we repaint it. it has the original swivel seats, hood and everything it came with. the only things cahnge we know of is the cams, headers, valve covers, and air filter. ratchet shift which im not sure if its stock or aftermarket?. we plan on pulling the 350 and droping in a 455 big block. with alot of other small mods not to change it to much from original.

1974 442's is the rare 442 from 73-77. their were 3,771 made in 74 because of gas. 73 442 with the 455 had 280hp at the rear wheels. 74 had 265 hp and 75 442's had 190 hp sucks. you can get more hp out of the 350 motor. i put a comp cam, 403 crank, 330 heads and got 395 hp at the rear wheels. it will smoke a gt all day lol.

Ron, Congrats on your 442. If you have any questions about your car, feel free to direct them my way. If you have a 350, chances are your tranny is a TH350, as opposed to the TH400. Your rear axle ratio can be found stamped on the front of the passenger side of the axle tube, in a two letter code. You should stop by 73-77olds.com if you get a chance. It's a forum dedicated to our cars. If I can't answer something, there are definitely others over there that can. Good luck bud. Get some pics of that sucker up here.
