I bought this 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 in the fall of 1982, the start of my senior year in high school. Mechanically nearly identical to the Ford Mustang, 1967 was the first year for the Mercury Cougar, and became Motor Trend Magazine's car of the year for that year. It was marketed as an upscale Mustang. The XR7 package included some extras that you couldn't get in the base model Cougar, such as leather seats, a woodgrain (simulated, of course) dash, and full gauges. While my car is an XR7, some things that make it even more unique than most 1967 Cougars, are that it came from the factory with a manual 4 speed transmission and a 4 barrel small block engine. Being a "luxury" sports car, most Cougars were equipped with an automatic transmission. Some unique custom details I have added to my car, include custom upholstery with Cougars stitched into the seat backs (these cougars match the two cougars that were etched into the back window even before I bought the car), I deleted the "Mercury" script emblems from the front and back of the car (wax and crud gets caught up in these emblems and is nearly impossible to get out), 17" alumimum centerline rims, AM/FM CD player, and a mildly built but very streetable 302 engine. This photo was taken August 2007.
