This is my 1993 YJ. I picked this up Aug 2007, bone stock from a 60 something year old lady. It had 153,000 on its 4.0 HO.
First thing I did was reinforce any weak spots on the frame. I did all the welding and fish plating myself. This included heavy duty winch plate and custom bumpers front and rear. Both bumpers have real strong recovery points.
I decided to give it some boost on a budget, so I went a bought a bunch of hockey pucks and 3" longer 1/2 and 7/16 hardware. That turned out well, I find that it is easier to clean the mud off with a big gap between the frame rail and the tub. The only difficult part of lifting with hockey pucks that much is that I had to fabricate a drop bracket for my rad, and new shifter linkage. but all in all I spent about $40 between the pucks and hardware.
Lifting a jeep is sort of like crack, very addictive. What man out there wouldn't want another 4 inches? Of lift I mean... I got a good deal on a set of procomp lift springs and shocks. So that combined with the pucks means I have about 6 or 7 inches of lift.
I had to get a an aggressive tire, that fit the jeep so I went with a set of 34x12.50x15 Truxus MTs. Good on the street, with little noise, and great off road as well.
At this point everything else is stock, but as many of you, this is going to be a journey that is not to be rushed. When I start breaking things, I plan to upgrade to maybe a ford 9" or maybe a set of JK axles from mopar. 4.56 gears and selectable lockers front and rear.
Thats me!
