This is about how it looked when I acquired it about a year ago on a trade. Many changes later and still more ot come.
pbeck's 1965 Chevrolet Corvair
pbeck's 1965 Chevrolet CorvairThe car did not have any instrumentation, only a tach and temp. guage, so had to refit the cluster. I used all autometer guages and added a fuel pressure and trans. temp. guage to the center.
pbeck's 1965 Chevrolet CorvairThe car has a 350 Chev. 4 bolt truck engine with a .060 bore, '88 Corvette aluminum heads, stealth intake, Holley 750 DP with a Proform center body. Also added an electric water pump and fuel pump with regulator. The car had a Saginaw 4 speed origionally but after alot of problems a I switched it out for a built TCI powerglide with a pro tree transbrake, full manual valve body and a 2800 stall converter. Shifting with a Hurst Quarter Stick.
pbeck's 1965 Chevrolet CorvairFront mounted fuel tank had been removed and a 16 gal. fuel cell has been located in the normal engine compartment. All the fuel and transmission plumbing is Aeroquip stainless braided hose with an fittings.
pbeck's 1965 Chevrolet CorvairThe car came with a formed Crown interior. That was removed and I adapted a pair of bucket seats from a 02 or so Sunbird. Also am installing a set of 5 point RCI harnesses.
pbeck's 1965 Chevrolet CorvairThe radiator is installed in the front and is completely shrouded with aluminum panels. Air comes thru the front helped by an S20 spoiler and some additional venting. Hot air is exhausted thru the section under the car. When needed a puller fan, temp. controlled, helps keep it cool. The biggest problem with this conversion is making the cooling system work correctly. I added a bleeder line from the water pump to the top of the thermostat housing and also put a valve in the housing to release any trapped air. Seems work well so far. The temps stay at approx. 180 and when they get higher the fan kicks on and they drop .
pbeck's 1965 Chevrolet CorvairCurrently the car is back from the soda blaster and in my shop at home getting some body work done before it goes for paint. Soda blasting is really good, the finish is down to the factory coating everywhere. If you do it be prepared for dust everywhere. I covered stuff with plastic and still got soda dust. It does blow off easily and car be removed with soap and water. If you're concerned about getting it all you can add some diluted vinegar to your water and wash it with that. The vinegar will neutralize the sada, but make sure you wash that off good cause it is a mild acid. The car will eventually have burnt orange with a pearl base paint job.

Looks like a great project! I hope to have a V8 Vair soon. Any problems with too much horsepower for the drivetrain? By the way, good choice for future color!
