Andrew Lien's 1982 DeLorean DMC-12

Engine is back in, and exhaust is installed!! It was definitely worth the wait and the effort. My D is running better than it ever has and it sounds oh so sweet!! That mean looking exhaust hanging in the back makes quite a difference, visually, too!!! Pheasant Run, here I come!

Well, finally after almost 4 months of waiting, my new exhaust system arrived!! Today I test fit the system and reinstalled the oil pan. I am dumping the included Flowmaster muffler and using a Magnaflow instead. The Magnaflow, I have been told, sounds much better than the Flowmaster, but we will soon see! Just a couple more bits and pieces and I will be ready to put the powertrain back in and get driving again! Stay tuned, because the 2006 DeLorean Car Show is just around the corner!

Happy New Year everyone! Quite a bit has been happening with my car since my last update. Like usual, this one was a long time coming. See page 8 for pics. I have removed my engine and transmission in order to fix a leaky exhaust manifold gasket and to do some general tidying up - namely cleaning and painting the engine! Since I have the engine out anyway, I figured why not go all out?? No time like now to install DMC Houston's performance exhaust set - 2.5" stainless steel equal length headers into high-flow cats and then into a Magnaflow muffler (which I am upgrading to). The set is also coated by Jet Hot, and the stainless is polished for a shiny chrome look.

Today, John Z. DeLorean passed away due to complications from a stroke earlier this week. He was 80 years old. His legacy will be remembered by DeLorean owners, auto enthusiasts, and fans throughout the entire world. May you rest in peace, JZD. Thank you for 'living the dream'.

This update has been a long time coming but I have been quite busy this spring/summer so far. I just returned from DCS 2004 in Pigeon Forge. There were 118 DeLoreans in attendance which is the largest gathering of D's in history since factory closure. My car won FIRST PLACE in the 50K-60K mile catagory. Other things that have been done this spring include new ball bearing steering linkage, a rebuilt steering rack from PJ Grady, new tie rod ends, Michelin Pilot XGT H4 tires, and few misc fasteners and clips to help tidy up the car. I also replaced all of the weatherstripping on the doors. I have no other service planned on the car for the year (because there is very little left to do that won't lay the car up during the driving season). As hinted before, this winter I plan on a total undercarriage restoration, so more info on that in the coming months. Photos from DCS2004 will be up shortly. - later

Here is the last update for the year before my car hits the storage garage. As you see, I have finished the interior, and done quite a bit of engine work (99% complete). On the slate next year is new weatherstripping for the doors and new polished OEM wheels. In 2005 I will finish the car by blasting and powdercoating the entire chassis and replace the frame. In the future, I plan on upgrading the exhaust and intake as well as a port and polish job. Also, 2004 is the year of the 4th DeLorean Car Show in Pigeon Forge, so you will see pics from there next spring. Thanks!
