HISTORY/EXTERIOR PICS

Man what a BAD car, this is a 1973 chrysler newport. Besides being the ultimate sleeper, it also has quit the pedigree. Car was a special ordered car, for the new york horse race track car. It was pretty much the pace car for horse races in new york. Car had NO options on it what so ever, with the exception of the sunroof. It had no trunck lid, and had the hydralic system in the trunk that operated the big gates on the back. A hydralic line blew and spit hydralic fluid all over the trunk, it ate the paint away, but it kept the trunk from rusting out, very nice. The track had drilled holes around the trunk, to attach the strapes to hold the big gates down. It had only 1 bucket seat, and a big stool, the driver sat on the stool, while half his body was above the sun roof, to announce the race or whatever he had to say.

Currently the car has retired from horse racing. The stool, and speakerphone system were removed from the car. A bucket seat, and rear bench from another car have been put in, along with new carpeting. It now has a sony radio with pioner 6x9 speakers in the rear deck. Some metal was welded in the trunk in the lip where the gates went. Its now spending its life seeing nice summer days, and terrorizing the assphault with wild burnouts ;), and taking down little unsuspecting mustangs.

Some history,

One of the greatest race horses (considered by some), Niatross ran in several races behind this car, and actually set a world record running behind this car.

on september 6, 1980 Niatross broke bret hanover's 1966 record of a 1:58.1 in the fastest mile on a 1/2 mile track ever.Niatross demolished that record running a 1:55.0 at batavia downs running behind this car!

The record was held for 12 days by batavia downs, then niatross broke his own record at delaware ohio on september 18, 1980 running a 1:54.4

BODY
the body is in really good shape!! it has only 3 little rust spots, that are by the quarter, but nothing major, i kind of like it because it gives it that extra sleeper look. Has the original chrysler hubcaps, and sports a trunk lid off of another car now. it still has all the holes that were drilled with the rivets in them around the trunk, nothing big, just need to drill em out and weld new metal in its place.

as mentioned, they drilled holes and put rivites in for the straps to hold the gates, and machinery on the trunk, here are those holes.

Not ANOTHER former horsetrack car! Kidding! 655,683 cars on Car Domain, betting this is the only one that led horse races. That alone is worth 5 stars. Enjoy.
