I picked up a K&N HAI off of yours truly, cardomain, and even though both the K&N website and this site says it will fit - dont be fooled, it wont. It was made for the 04-06 Maxima's, which have a different battery position allowing for the proper fitment of the HAI.
The problems I had with mine were..
No area to secure the bracket to hold the K&N filter up. On the 04-06 Maxima its on the transmission hidden by a couple of wire looms.
The Mass Air sensor was the worst part - the screws dont line up for one and the sensor is too long and wont even go in.
My battery is currently resting against a Rad hose and the engine not secured - although its snug for no troubles.
My fix to these problems..
The bracket is currently not secured. I'll be looking for a place to both bend the bracket and bolt it down onto the engine as theres plenty of spots, I just havent found the best one yet.
The mass air sensor. Im going to buy the 04+ one as the harness looks the same. For a temp fix though I used a weather trim to heighten the material, and screwed it right in. Be careful if you do this.
My battery will be relocated to the trunk. Otherwise I'll see if I cant get someone to fabricate a proper hold on it such as in the 04-06 Maxima.
