Here is my 1973 Nova the Junk Yard Dawg! I pulled this out of a Salvage Yard across from my home.I have done all of this work in 5 months! From the junkyard to the street. Look at all of the photos .Look at the changes. Drop me a comment and vote for me! All comments are appreciated! Tell your friends to look. I would like to see my viewing numbers soar. More photos coming. The interior is next!
The original engine was locked up and the car had been sitting YEARS. I wanted to redo this car as a tribute to the owner of the Salvage Yard and my friend Jay Green who had passed away last year unexpectedly.
I had a fairly fresh 350 4 bolt main that had been bored .30 over and had been totally gone through. I bought it a couple of years from a friend who was needing some cashflow.
So I got a new transmission to go with it because I was not sure of the original and its condition. I gave it to a friend of mine to put in a Camaro. Come to find out the transmission works great. Oh Well! Better safe than sorry!
After the engine bay detailing and motor install it was time to hit the bodywork. This was a pain! The original color was a puke orange but had been painted blue then burgandy. It was poorly done and just faLLING off.
So I pretty much stripped it. Look at the photos and I will throw some remarks in as we go.
As you can see I pretty much went down to the metal or at least to the original paint.
So much work so little time
Car is pretty much stripped. And most in primer now.
The lower quarters had the typical rust areas that I cut out and repaired. I removed a lower qtr section out of a 75 Nova. I found out the hard way it was about an inch longer. I had to cut it in the sections and piece it back. I made a template and made the passenger side. They both turned out nice. Many hours was spent with the quarters!
Now that the quarters are done I got a rear spoiler off a Mercury Cougar and raised it an inch and rounded the corners. It flows well with the Nova bodylines don't you think?!
Now the Hood was another fun one.
Here it is being centered. The L88 scoop. Not too big. Not too small. Just Right!
Now everything looks ready for spraying but I have to first trim it out.
Now fresh out of the garage . This is my special mix 2000 Nissan Orange with a little Hugger Orange added. I couldn't find my color I wanted so I did it myself!
I am in the process of putting it back together. I was lucky to find a set of original 60's/70's Cragar
Wheels that are on it now. I have installed headers new chrome, weatherstrip. I have new carpet and upholstery. The floor have now been cut out and are in. The new carpet has now been put in and the back seats are about to be recovered, and then they are goin to be put in also. The capret that we installed is black, and so is the seat that we are going to put in to.

Here are the pictures of the seats. The back seats have been reupholstered and put in. The fron seats had hole on the side and ciggarette burns in the seat. The front seats were in the car when i got it, but they didn't go to this car. The previous owner put a benchseat from a truck into the car. The car was nearly impossible to ride in because the seats were to large, so I replaced them with bench seats that come out of another '73 nova. The seats were navy blue and had to be dyed black. The seats are in perfect condition, not a single scratch on them. They only costed $100 dollars. It was to good of a deal to pass up.

The car was in the Froggy's first annual car show at Coosa Valley Fair Grounds. It won third place behind a model T and a 57 Belair. It has also been in a car show at the Rome airport in Rome, Georgia.

A grant racing steering wheel has been installed from the old factory wheel that was on it

Here are some professional pics we had made at the car show:

There are so many things I have done and will be doing in the days to come. Check out my other vevicles on my website. I love cars and try to be unique and different when I do one. I will be updating this regularly. I need bumpers, bumper fillers, dash pad, a headliner, and front inner fenderwells for this car. Any leads will be appreciated.
Mike, the owner of the car, has passed away, but one of his sons and his brother is updating his page and we are going to finish up his cars, so enjoy. Thanks for looking.
