Here is my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Laramie Quad Cab 4x4. It has the 318ci V8 Magnum with the 46RE automatic transmission. He got this truck from my aunt and uncle in 2004. It had 120,000 miles on it. In 5 years we have put 53,000 miles on it in 5 years. It now has 173,000 miles. Ever since we bought it, we have babied it, reserving the Ram for the weekend and when we really need a truck.
In 2005, with 130,000 miles on her, the original 46RE transmission started slipping and missing gears. We chose to have the transmission re-built to stock specs by John's Transmission Service in Aurora, Indiana. In 2006, my dad clipped somebody's car with the front tire, bending the front axle, front control arms, track bar, sway bar, and breaking the steering linkage. Thankfully our insurance paid for it and Ashcraft Autobody in Aurora, Indiana installed new Mopar control arms, steering linkage, sway bar, and track bar. They also replaced the original front axle with a used one from a 1994 Ram. The Catalytic converter was replaced with a Magnaflow direct fit cat in 2007. In THe summer of 2008, I painted my trademark grille orange. In March 2009, while changing the tranny fluid, I decided that I would adjust the bands. I had my Factory Service Manual, so I had the right specs, but the stupid torque wrench that I unknowingly used was faulty, causing me to over-tighten the bands. This caused the bands to wear all the way down and 3rd gear was shredded. I had the transmission Re-build by John again Remember, it wasnt his fault!).
For a truck that has 173,000 miles, this Ram runs even better than it did when we bought it in 2004! I think it is done breaking in! I'm shooting for 1,000,000 miles in it.
Here are some pictures. More on Page 2.
