Here is the Optima Yellow Top battery that is ruining my engine bay.
It was purchased on 11/2007, and is now spraying acid all over the engine
bay. I put this page together to show to Optima personnel, in hopes they
can see what is going on.
My engine bay was pristine, but is now ruined in the surrounding area, close to where the battery was.
There was no rust or paint missing. It was in a state decay. This could've lead to the car's demise,
as the acid & corrosion can spread to areas that cannot be treated, unless the engine is removed,
Everything would need to be sand blasted, and repainted; but I have done what I can :(
Apparently these batteries can leak or vent acid. This was apparently caused by
a faulty voltage regulator on the alternator, but the true damage was done by the
acid from the Optima battery. They may not spill, but they spirt out acid. BS!! :(
B E F O R E: A F T E R:
Above: you can see where the acid from this Optima Yellow Top battery has sprayed out, and is eating
away at my hoses, metal, and anything it has sprayed on. Not Good! >:/
Another shot of the acid eating away everything.
The acid must be coming from the rear vents, because the backs of the terminals, are corroded.
Another shot of the positive terminal corrosion
Closeup of the corrosion, which is leading to rust.
The tie-down rod was all corroded. From the acid spraying out the back.
It sprayed on top the side of the engine as well
Another shot of the corrosive spray on the pipes and engine
This is the spray on the underside of the cowl.
Acid all over the top and sides of the battery
Another shot of the acid all over the top and sides of the battery
More acid all over everything
This was all black, with no rust before I put this battery in. Now look at it.
This is the battery tray, covered in acid, and goop.
The rear of the negative terminal piece. Sprayed, and now corroded
This is the firewall, where the acid ate under the paint
This is the battery metal tray. It is now rusted, and getting worse.
The side of the battery has acid all over it..
The Optima battery tray, with acid in the bottom. It dripped on the ground,
and started foaming. **See below**
Here is the acid which was dripping off the battery and the tray.
Acid, close-up
More acid on top of the battery
Corrosion on the back of the positive terminal piece
Now My wires had some acid eat through them in the
engine bay, and fried my Greddy Profec B Boost Controller!!! PISSED ! ! >:(
The wires run to a vacuum box next to my battery, from the boost
controller, located in my interior dash. There could have
been an electrical fire! Good thing it had a fuse in line...

PAIN IN THE ASS, RUST REMOVAL!!
Because of Battery acid.

Acid ate thru my Greddy boost unit too! (below)
Items below now painted, and in the process of being reinstalled
