This is my 1997 Volvo 960 wagon. Dual Overhead Cam, 24 Valve, 2.9 Liter Inline 6, Independent rear suspension and REAR WHEEL DRIVE! Stock.
Yes, it's Purple. And I love it. It's stock, but here is the plan for her as soon as I finish saving up the money...
The engine gets swapped with a self built T6 motor out of a Volvo S80 with custom ground cams, ported and polished head, custom machined sodium filled valves, balanced and blueprinted crank, forged RSI rods and whatever pistons I decide on. (depending on what I'll be doing with the boost....) Mated to that 6 cylinder alloy chunk of death will be a Tremec T-56 6 speed with a custom machined flywheel and bellhousing, and a custom driveshaft connecting up to fully adjustable coilover Jaguar independent rear suspension with inboard Wilwood disc brakes. That should complete the driveline nicely.
Fully adjustable Koni coilovers for the front, with Volvo 850R racing spec brakes, a custom strut tower brace and custom made sway bars front and rear will complete the suspension. The interior will get a stage 0 makeover, staying partly/mostly stock. An A-pillar gauge cluster for boost, oil pressure/temperature, and water pressure will be added to the driver's side A-pillar, and racing bucket seats will be added in the driver's seat and front passenger's seat positions with Kaplhenke Racing mounting brackets to be able to mount the bucket seats to the fully power adjustable stock seat bases. A full Blue LED bulb swap to all lighted gauges, buttons and pieces in the interior, a full upgrade to all the factory speakers with tasteful subs added, and a Navigation and iPod ready double DIN head unit will be done, and a non intrusive rollcage may be added as well. And... The car will still have air conditioning!
Exterior modifications will be minimal. Full tint (possibly down to 5%) on all windows, the car will be slammed due to the aforementioned suspension work, polished Aluminum BBS wheels wrapped in BFG rubber and custom made HID headlights will be the extent of the exterior work. A Volvo V70R rear bumper will be modified to fit, along with a V70R spoiler and side skirts. Maybe a Volvo 850R/960 combo front bumper, as well. The car will stay Purple! (Or technically Blackberry, which is the actual Volvo color. Volvo paint code #433-22.)
So there you have it. That is the plan for the 960 beasty. It'll happen sooner or later...
