For the mileage currently on the Ram, it was pretty much mechanically sound. The two major problems were the valve cover leak and the rear main seal leak.
We replaced the valve cover gaskets, replaced the oil pan gasket, and replaced the rear main seal. While we had the valve covers and the oil pan off, we went ahead and painted them body color.
We tore down the motor a bit and replaced the timing chain with a new double row, since it showed a bit of slack. We painted the timing chain cover, water pump, harmonic balancer, fan, and exhaust manifolds. We also replaced the plugs with Bosch plugs, put new MSD 8.5mm wires, and an Accel cap. Also replaced all the hoses, and replaced the belt with a Goodyear Gatorback.
Aisde from that, we installed a Mopar Performance air breather with a K&N filter, which we also painted body color. The motor sounds and looks good now.
^ My engine bay at its dirtiest.
Now it's time for a bigger motor ;). My dad and I picked up a 408 block, Edelbrock aluminum heads, and a Mopar Performance M1 manifold from a guy who was building a 408 Dakota, but called it quits. This motor won't go in till the spun bearing in it is fixed and put together which probably won't be until around the end of this year. Until then, I'm bolting the M1 to fix my newly discovered plenum leak on my 318.
