RAN 14.26 @ 99.36 MPH at St. Thomas -Sparta ,Ontario on May 17,2009:
Jun 09,2009 Well, I managed to get some more fun out of the current motor with al ittle cheat...I just changed the rod bearings (twice). It bought me some time and fun! I participated in the Test & Tune at St. Thomas on May 17 ,09 and set the fastest time the car has gone yet: 14.22 @ 95.11 and 14.26 @ 99.36.
This was on the clacking motor and no boost control! Once I get a new engine I hope to be in the low 13's with this same setup. I also tried a different cal. I later installed a grainger vlave and did some more tweaking and on May 31, I did another autocross and had some respectable times and never opened the hood once! I also attended a car show on Jun. 03 and had alot of interest in the GLH! I have most of the bugs worked out of the car now...now I just need a short block!
LOADED UP TO GO TO DRAG STRIP:
AT THE DRAG STRIP PITS 05-17-09:
COMPETING IN AUTOCROSS SOLO2 May 31,2009:
Apr.28, 2009 I abused the living shit out of my GLH on Sun Apr.28 at a solo II autocross...basically full out 1st gear redline @ 22psi of boost around a road course...never shifted to 2nd, well by my 5th run I hurt the bottom of the motor...Worst part is the thing was running really sweet and pulling hard, faster than the car has ever been. Hope to get it going again for May 9th drags.....already workin on a short block..

Apr.05, 2009 Got quite a bit done the last week or so, Got the new Super 60 turbo installed, got the head assembly back on, installed new FPR, new plugs (went back to stock Champions from NGKs), eliiminated the heating system (for now), finished the battery relocation, installed the NPR intercooler and TII Rad. I fired it up momentarily and it runs sweet. Now I just have to finish the intercooler piping and tidy up the wiring ans some odds & ends & should be good to go....
Here are some pics of my old setup with a stock TII intercooler & a nippondenso 15" rad (it sucked)...and then after today, with the new NPR intercooler and TII Rad.
BEFORE: ..............................................................AFTER :
Mar.29, 2009 Been busy on the car. After sitting all winter, I ended up having to repalace the oil pump on the fresh engine. Also discovered the turbo was actually screwed. It was only a stock turbo1, but it was a low miler. Anyway, I got a line on a low mile Super 60 and purchased it, should have it one in the next week or so. I already pulled the head assembly and stripped the turbo of the 3" swing valve and stainless braided lines.
Pic of a Super60: Pic of NPR intercooler:
I have also purchased an small NPR intercooler and a TII rad to replace the stocker TII Intercooler and the nippondenso Jap rad i was running. Today, I was working on getting a later model water pump on so I can have heat with the TII rad. With the jap. one I was still running a T1 water pump and had no heat. I have also started to relocate the battery to the passenger side, I ran all the wiring, just need to weld in some sort of battery hold down and put everything together.
Recent Activity Mar. 09:

Jan.16, 2009 Well, I started the car and drove it down the road, it needs a bunch of details worked out for the spring, like all new vacuum lines, and small things like that. The biggest plans for spring though are a brand new rad, probably a stock one and a bigger intercooler and new IC piping. The current rad is a very small one out of a Toyota os somethin, and a stock T2 Intercooler. Both of those are gonna go. I will probably put in a better blow off valve too, the Mitsu one might not cut it at 20psi, i just dont trust it. The other MUST is an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and steel braided/fitted lfuel lines. I may go for a billet fuel rail too. Anyway, all I am doing now is accumulating parts!
Dec.17, 2008. Update: I just installed another 2.2L and the RPS Carbon claw clutch. Just have to accumulate a few parts through the winter and should be good to go again in '09 at the strip. Hoping for mid-low 13's. Basically stock engine/Turbo/tranny, I think 12.9-13.0 may be the max on this setup? Maybe Not.............
I'm not gonna get into the history of the GLH & Shelbys involvement with Dodge, most people know the legend, lore & specs. Long story short Omni GLH's continue to turn heads and raise eyebrows at drag strips across North America. I bought mine in 2004:
Pics from 2004 after geting car back into running condition:
It needed some serious help. It barely ran! It was a one owner car, but was a little rough to say the least. I got it with a log intake manifold and a custom fabbed intercooler setup that was good for mid-hi 15's.
Setup the car came with Intercooled Log intake T1 2004:
A couple trips to the strip and I was hooked on making the GLH faster, shooting for 13's! In '05 I dumped the log intake, went with a T2 one pc intake, a Mitsu Eclipse Blow Off Valve, T2 stock intercooler, a Turbos Unleashed custom calibrated computer, a 3-bar MAP sensor and +40 injectors. That was good for my best pass to date of 14.342 @ 94.57 MPH. I also installed Autometer Boost & Air/Fuel guages.
I blew the turbo at the strip, so next I installed another stock T1 turbo changed over to T2 specs, with a Turbos Unleashed 3" swing valve and 3" exhaust system (no cat).I alao threw on a new Turbo support bracket from TU I also melted a piston, So I popped in another stock T1 slug (for now) and a Mopar Performance '005' head gasket& Mopar Performance 11mm head bolt kit. While I was in there, I put on a new timing belt too. I also ported the exhaust manifold alot and got rid of any restrictions.
MELTED PISTON: ...................................... Head with new Turbo & Swingvalve:
Anyway, with the new torque and horsepower from the opened up exhaust, the stock clutch simply would not hold the power, You know these turbo Dodges, Race one day...work on it for a few months, race another day, break somethin, work on it & upgrade again. So it slipped like a mother on my last race day in '07. I still hit the low 15's! I just bought an RPS carbon claw clutch, I will throw that in the stock tranny until it blows up, and then I will upgrade from this slush box to a 555 or a hybrid.
Also like to do a little Autocross Solo 2 in the GLH:
POOR GLH has to hibernate under a mountain of SNOW:
In 2007 I also installed a brand new fuel tank and a Walbro255 in-tank hi flow pump. The first time to the strip my rubber fuel lines burst, so its time for braided lines and fittings.
I know the car will be in the low 13's to high 12's now, I just gotta prove it. Short term plans now include installing the new clutch, & maybe with a Fidanza flywheel if I can afford it, New Koni shocks/struts all the way around, and licensing the car to drive on the street for the summer. Future plans include new tranny, new aluminum rad, adjustable fuel pressure regulator and nitrous. I will keep you posted on any progress and try to get some good pics this summer. Later.
