This is my 2002 Dodge Ram that I personally built, or should say building. They are never done. It is lowered 3/6 with a Doetsch Tech lowering kit. I have done all of the work myself, with the help of some friends, and on a college student budget.

I didn;t like the look of the grille in the air at the shows so I decided to flip the hood. Took a little of my engineering degree to figure that one out.

This truck may not be a radical custom, but for southeast Missouri it can stand it’s ground at many of the car shows. It has placed 1st or 2nd at the majority of the shows I have taken it to. Plus it is my daily driver. I will continue to customize it as time and money becomes available. This is the 1st 2wd I have ever built. Until now I have always built lifted 4x4’s, which is my true passion, but I decided to try something different and venture out of my realm when I built this truck.
I chose to use a 2002 with the 5.9L simply because everybody goes crazy over the HEMI. I love the HEMI too, but I just thought it would be cool to be a little different. From my experience most people didn’t even realize this body style ever came with the 360. Another reason for the choice of trucks is that I graduated high school in 2002, so the year kind of has a meaning to me also.
As you can see in the stock picture, she was completely stock the day I bought her from a dealership in St. Louis. The only modification was a drop in factory bedliner, which I have since removed. I knew how I was going to build the truck before I made the purchase. I have slightly differed from those plans as I had planned to black out all chrome, smoke all lights, and run black wheels. I have since become kind of fond of the stock trim look. Again just to be different than the custom rides most people build.
I have done all of the modifications myself and on a very tight budget. Including the purchase of the truck I have invested LESS than $20,000 all together in it.
One of my favorite mods has to be the hood flip. I didn’t like the look of the grille raised in the air at shows with a plain view of the radiator. I was inspired when I looked at a model I built when I was a 13. It was a blue Dodge Ram SST, and I could never get the hood hinges to work so I made the hood flip forward because there was a tab on the bottom of the grille that fit between the bumper and radiator and it supported itself. I then began examining the 55 Chevy truck hood flip from No Limit Engineering and began to build a similar design to work on a Dodge hood. Plus I saw a unique opportunity to hinge a hood at the bottom of the grille. I have had several people ask me to build one for them of help them build one. While I love the compliment of it, I would kind of like to stay the only Dodge with it. Although 2 months after completing the flip, I did see another Dodge on the internet with a similar conversion.
