Just bought this 1972 beast for $1250.00! It kicks some serious butt and will be an excellent project. I've got some pictures up now more to follow soon. She's a 318 carrying green machine and will be getting the best treatment for performance and looks! I can't wait, check back often for updates!
First upgrade completed! On the way home from picking her up we got a new red top, you can tell she is happy with this!
Upgrade numero 2 is now on! I installed a Holley air cleaner which was quite an adventure.
Making the new air cleaner fit was fun. The itty-bitty carb would in no way would way fit the new cleaner so MODIFICATION TIME!!!
Finished base and new base, these fit new on old with rtv for a seal until new manifold and carb are available.
And installed!
Isn't she pretty??
Current project is now to remove rust and trim in preparation for the paint job! I think I'm going to leave the majority of the chrome trim off as I prefer the wheel wells without it.
Dead Trim
This picture shows the wheel well without trim. I like this look much better. It also shows why I can't yet mount the 17s I've got to put on her. The lug pattern is perfect but the center of the drum assembly interferes withe the new wheels up front, backs are fine. I'm going to have to swap to front discs sooner than I had expected.
Today I pulled off the rear wheels to remove more chrome trim and decided to clean up the drums. I started by hitting them with a wire wheel on a drill to remove the loose rust and then applied rust converter which made them a nice black. For now I'll leave the fronts a nice rust color since hopefully I'll be replacing them soon!
Now painted!! These should really pop when I've got the new wheels on! I"ll be painting the front calipers to match once I get my conversion kit.
This is a close up of the Dodge logo mud flaps I installed to replace the chrome metal style ones which came with the car.
I bought her a new present. She is happy!
Here is a current shot of the trunk. Surprisingly little rust was found after pulling all the nice green carpet. I threw away the carpet and pad which smelled funny and was a bit damp. Most of the rust found was up inside the fender and has since been converted.
I need to find a replacement reverse lens and gasket assembly for the passenger side. This one has a nice crack in it.
Ebay is good to me!!
I'll be installing this new fun stuff in July when I get back home!
The only lights that didn't work at purchase were the reverse lights. I bought new bulbs to fix the issue but discovered that the lens on the passenger side was cracked and was full of water. New bulbs and cleaning the contacts didn't produce light so more investigation will be needed!
