Ok here I go. This is some of the photos of my controller instalation. I first located my harness in the jack compartment. I had the 6 wire harness, not the 8. I drilled a hole in the floor of the jack compartment and pushed my plug harness up through the floor to splice the wires into the van's harness. I then sealed around the wires with black rtv.You can see this here:
Underneath, I covered the harness with wire loom and ran it over to the 7 point plug. You can see here how it comes out of the floorboard of the jack compartment. I drilled it from the bottom after taking distance measurements:
I bought a plug that had the wiring already done, and it has a flat 4 plug built in right next to the 7 point trailer plug. The pwr and brake wires I ran up under the van to the convenience center under the hood.
I drilled a hole thru the fire wall near the steering colum and ran my wires for the controller thru, and sealed it in the same fashion as the other hole. I ran the controller pwr wire out to the convenience center and and the ground to the ground wire bolted on the fire wall just above the conveneince center. The main battery pwr for the trailer I also ran under the van and connected it to one of the two convenience center pwr leads with a 30 amp inline fuse just before it connects.
Inside, I wanted to mount the controller somewhere out of the way and neat, and where I wouldn't knock it with my big size 15 feet or long legs. This is where I found.
The cubby hole where the factory CD player would have gone is a great spot. It is large enough for air circulation. But it presents one problem. It is mounted in the dog house console. If I mounted it there, I would have to disconnect all my wires everytime I needed to service the engine. This was my solution:
I left it about 4 feet long and spliced it in to my controller harness. Now I can disconnect it anytime I need to remove the doghouse. I figured that if the harness was tough enough to stand up to exterior use, it would do fine here, and it does!!! And it tucks up neatly out of sight behind the doghouse. I pulled it out just to take the pic so you could see it.
And this is the finished product:
I have to take some more pics of the under hood wiring and the 7 + 4 trailer plug. But that will be a little later.
Also I will take some more pics of the weight distribution hitch and anti sway control for those who want to see how they work.
I hope this has helped some of you.
Happy trailering!!!!
Later,
Bill
