Repainting My Wheels

This is the gold my wheels were when I first got them. The gold quickly faded into an ugly silver-ish color, so I chose to repaint them as opposed to buying new wheels. Although it was a great idea, it certainly came with some headaches. I'm definitely a creature of habit. For the most part, I don't like when things change. Not a great characterisitic for a car enthusiast, I know. :)
Coming up with the perfect color took months; I wanted to do a bright color, but nothing too bright because I feared that whole 'ricer' stereotype. After numerous trips to the auto paint store I finally decided on my color. A Volkswagon metallic teal blue. My inspiration came from a '63 Beetle I saw in an edition of VDub Magazine. The paint tech did tweak the color quite a bit to get the brightness I needed to be able to stand out. Overall, one of my favorite mods to the Lancer. :)
Like I said earlier, I'm a creature of habit and change scares me most of the time. And for that reason I have to thank Nate, Munchie, Chris, & my Chris for all their patience. Hands down, without a doubt, painting my wheels was the best decision I have made for Eva yet. From the moment I saw the paint in the can to the moment I saw my finished wheels, I just felt this sense of relief that I hadn't felt all those months I was trying to find the perfect color. I had found it! And I love it!

Yes, it's a garage paint job. He's also a professional painter by day for a dealership in town. I dare you to find the flaws. ;) You can kinda see the ugly silver the wheels had faded into. Not at all the bright gold I fell in love with when I first got them!

They even painted inside the logo in the lip. They didn't even come from the manufacturer with that kinda detail. My paint guy is amazing!

Good ole' kerosene heater dryer! Haha. Works just fine though. It was about 15 degrees outside the night he sprayed them, so we had to improvise. The color is outstanding! He did lay down a white primer before spraying the blue to give it an extra pop! These pictures just don't do that color much justice. It's such a bright blue. Gorgeous in the sun! You can even see a difference in the color from the above picture and the one below.

They look even better on the car! Love it next to the white.

My favorite picture! You can also see my new carbon fiber side mirrors. :)
