Update:

I would like to paint the car orange from the 1969 Eliminator but in most cases, I don't know from internet pictures if the color is correct from the period or if it is a new color. If anyone has a Cougar picture with the original orange color, please let me know.

This is a 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7. I have added some cosmetics to make it appear similar to an Eliminator. It began life as the last picture shows. The car was owned by the same person for over 25 years but the last few were not kind to it. It has the original 390, C6 Auto and 9" rear gears. I have added a shift kit to the transmission and some slight upgrades to the engine. The car also has the factory tilt/tilt away steering with a rack and pinion upgrade. The car took a few more years to complete than originally anticipated as I moved to a new city. The car was completed in 2007 but I have completed a few more items, such as a front spoiler, new rear springs and wider rims and tires.

Believe it or not, it was a picture of your Cougar that convinced my wife to let me buy mine! Love your Cougar, I hope mine looks as good when I'm done. I'm still in the gutted out primer stage and dealing with the last(I hope)of the rust. One great looking car. Cougars rule.... :) If you know anyone looking for parts send them my way. I have a few spares that came with the car. 5 stars.

In my latest issue of Front Wheel Driver (newsletter of the Toronado Owners Assication), the designer of the Toronado, David North, memtion that the Ford folks used many of the styling cues for the 1967-70 Cougar
