1989 Montero LS

"The Short Bus"

This used to be a run-down White Montero with Tan interior. My girl named it the "short bus" because she claims I rode one to school. Sorry for the political incorrectness, but the name hard to shake a name once it sets-in.

Anyway, in it's original state, this truck was disgusting. For ten years, I used it to haul pine straw, wood chips, sheet-rock and other home improvement stuff. My Mercedes 300CE Cabriolet needed restoring, but I needed to make Monty my daily driver first. Check it out at: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3327370. Now that I am done with both, The Short Bus is my daily driver & airport shuttle.

Bye-Bye Stock Bumpers

Here you can see the custom bumper made from 6" tubular steel [Courtesy of Wesley Robertson at wrfabworks@comcast.com]. Notice that the rear bumper has been removed. I have yet to have a rear bumper made, but I did fill-in the indentation in the body that accommodated the stock rear bumper. I really hated the stack bumpers.

Interior

Here is a picture of the door panels. I replaced the stock seats with seats from a Nissan 300ZX. I've liked those seat since I owned my first Z Car. The seats were recovered in yellow and black to match the Honda 2000 Mellow Yellow squirted on the outside.

The sound system is incredible. Jamel Allen of OTS Installations selected and installed the entire system. It has a double-din Panasonic Head Unit with DVD, MB Quarts in the front and rear door panels, tweeters in the dash, and a 12" MTX Sub in the back. The MTX Sub and the Alpine Amps are partially hidden in custom boxes on opposite sides of the rear hatch. The boxes replaces the side panels and are Rhino Lined to match the floor board.

So, all of you old Montero enthusiast, please let me know what you think. Keep in mind, it was a "budget job" and I didn't want to exceed the cars value by "too" much. As if I haven't already!
