***** 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger Special - 340 *****

The 50’s and 60’s were a fun time to be a teenager. The “American Graffiti” movie unfolded in our daily lives. Our whole world was wrapped around our cars, our friends and the weekend. Some of the meanest machines on the street were cars directly from the manufacture. Chevy, Ford and Chrysler seemed to be in a contest to see who could deliver the most horsepower in the lightest package. Fuel economy and emissions weren’t part of our vocabulary. The drag strip was a great place to hang out to see raw horsepower without new age electronics. It was horsepower and driver against horsepower and driver with foot brake and flames, man what a time! If you ever have a chance to own a small part of that era I recommend you do so. There will never be machines like these produced again.

It was 1970 and I was trolling the streets in my 1960 Chevy Biscayne 2 door 327 – four barrel with a 4 speed transmission. It was early evening and I was feeling pretty good. I pulled up to a stop light and a new 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger pulled up beside me. Well, needless to say it was on. I wound it up and waited for the green light. Like I said I was feeling pretty good until the light turned green and I got a real good look at his tail lights. I decided if I ever caught up with him I would asked to look under the hood. It had a 340 four barrel, automatic transmission and a positive traction rear end. I’ve been a fan ever since. Got to love the old Mopars!! .
