The engine is a 350ci High Compression 4 barrel carb hooked
up to a Turbo 350 3 speed trans. This car will pin you in the
seat till about 100 where it runs out of gear. The High
Compression 350ci (10.25:1) was an option for Buick in the
late 60's early 70's. It put out 315hp compared to the 350ci-2
barrels 285hp. The only other option was the well known
455ci, whichin 70 was only rated at 345hp but is believed to
be a lot more.
The engine in the ole Bu-Hog isn't really tired due to being
well maintaenced, but it did need some new paint to be more
show worthy. This is a break down on how my Granfather
and I "refreshed" the engine bay.
ENGINE PROGRESS
This is a Buick 350ci High Compression. Its very different
from a Chevy 350ci. The intake width alone is a clear
indication of that. Buicks were known for there long stroke
and brutal torque. This motor demonstrates that well.

This is the first time this motor has ever been taken this far
apart. My Grandfather and I were both suprised that the cam
is exposed in the valley.

This intake is solid cast iron and weights 45lbs. To bad they
dont make an aluminum version.

These are the baths that I made to soak the engine parts and
degrease them. I made a mixture of heavy concintrated
degreaser, 44k BG engine cleaner, several bottles of cheap
fuel injector cleaner and water. I it worked great and required
little to no scrubbing. A good spray with the hose and
pressure washer on the intake cleaned the parts nicely.

A pair of junk valve covers come in handy on jobs like this.
I picked these up for 10 bucks at a flea market for just this
reason.

I used a paint stripper to peel off the many layers of paint
these valve covers had. I used a wiz wheel to take off what
was left.

Having a clean warm area is key for painting, especially with
spray cans.
