Dedicated to SCCA Solo autocross, this 1999 STR Miata is having fun in the Southwest.
Originally acquired in October, 2007 from a local autocross driver, our little Emerald Mica "Sport" was competing in the local autocross circuit in Arizona in C Stock. Firebird Raceway in Phoenix is our hometown facility but an occasional trip to Tucson or Sierra Vista mixes things up with various track configurations. Summer time in Arizona requires some cooling off, and the summer series in Flagstaff & Taylor are not to be missed!
We decided on the '99 Mazda Miata Sport model because of its impressive factory options including: Torsen differential, Hard S suspension and factory 15" rims. Its weight of 2247 lbs also gives it one of the best power to weight ratios for a Miata. Another great reason to autocross a Miata is that it is very difficult obtain quicker lap times without spending a lot more $$$ regardless of vehicle or class. It is arguably the best bang for the buck in autocross...
We have sinced moved on from the '99 Sport & picked up a '99 PEP
after an unfortunate accident in November, 2009. Same color, same year!
The PEP (Popular Equipment Package) comes with a few more conveniences for daily use
like cruise control & power windows. Now we have speed and comfort!
