2000 BMW M5
Vehicle introduction, most recent pictures
2000 BMW M5. This is my secondary vehicle that I purchased March 5th, 2008. This is also the first vehicle that I purchased myself, using money that I managed to save during my deployment to Ramadi, Iraq, so believe me when I say that I definitely earned this vehicle.
More than any other vehicle, I had admired the E39 M5 before I was even old enough to have a motor vehicle license and can recall enviously reading about this vehicle in Motor Trend magazine. This vehicle is as near to the Socratic Form of Car as there possibly is (if you are familiar with philosophy you know what kind of statement I am making). Now I finally have the vehicle I had dreamed about back then. Every time I get behind the wheel of this vehicle it brings a youthful smile to my face. It is as if I am 16 and behind the wheel of a vehicle for the first time again! This vehicle is truly the ULTIMATE Ultimate Driving Machine.
As with my primary vehicle, I intend on taking GREAT care of this vehicle to insure that it remains in pristine condition.
Thank you CarDomain members for making my vehicle top ranked overall for all BMW M5s on CarDomain! Please continue to rate my vehicle well! Thank you very much CarDomain community!
Right now this is a nearly a completely original BMW M5. I plan on keeping it pretty much that way with the exception of a few tasteful modifications.
There has been only a few modifications to this vehicle so far;
*I purchased the vehicle with a custom radar detector that is hidden behind the grille of the vehicle and notifies the driver using lamps within the instrument cluster that are not used in the North American specification BMW M5. I didn't even notice this modification until a few days after purchasing the vehicle, but it is a really well done and stealthy modification (Cost: unknown, previous owner).
*When I purchased the vehicle, the brake calipers had been painted red. I like this simple modification because it is hardly noticable, but for those unfamiliar with the M5, it provides a just hint of its performance capabilities (Cost: unknown, previous owner).
*When I purchased the vehicle, the vehicle had been reprogrammed using Dinan Performance Engine Software. This software removes the speed limiter and allows my vehicle to reach its true top speed of 187 miles per hour, raises the rev limit by 250 revolutions per minute, and improves throttle response in both standard and sport mode (Cost: unknown, previous owner).
*I purchased and installed updated OEM BMW headlamps from a salvaged 2002 BMW 540i sedan. These headlamps simply update the appearance of the vehicle and provide a more aggressive appearance thanks to the incorporation of the illuminated celis angel eye design (Cost: $670.00 USD [cost of additional required wiring harness included] Car-Part.com).
*I updated the taillamps to the light emitting diode jeweled celis tail light design that was initiated in 2001 and later model year E39 vehicles. These are also OEM BMW lamps and ballasts manufactured by Hella (Cost: $324.00 USD, private transaction via Bimmerforums.com).
*Total modification cost do date; $924.00 USD [excluding previous owner modifications]
(Directly below is by far my favorite photograph that I have taken of my vehicle thus far. The E39 M5 was made to be driven on these twisty mountain roads and I think this photograph potrays that sentiment effectively. Thankfully, there is an abundance of these roads in Colorado.)
The one additional modification that I intend on performing on this vehicle is;
*Upgrade from the 4:3 aspect ratio navigation screen to the 16:9 aspect ratio navigation screen.
Other than these modifications, there are no modifications that are planned. I intend to keep this as an unmolested original E39 BMW M5 as it is sure to be a collector vehicle one day. There were only 2,874 model year 2000 E39 BMW M5s imported into the United States, and as time progresses, this already small number of original and undamaged M5s is sure to dwindle.
I love the way this vehicle looks with the angel eyes illuminated

Whats lurks under the hood is part of what defines this vehicle. This is a 400 horsepower, 187 mph sedan!
This is my vehicle alongside two amazing vehicles, the E92 M3 and an E65 Alpina B7, at the BMW Ultimate drive supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure event at Co's BMW.
The following are a few photographs of my vehicle at the Rocky Mountain BMW CCA 2008 Spring Drive.
Below is my favorite short film from the 2001 BMW Film Series entitled The Hire. This film is titled, "Star" and features Clive Owen and Madonna as well as a titanium silver E39 BMW M5 (nearly identical to my vehicle). Just watch and you will see why I love this film...
