Welcome all Sport Compact Fans!
The name's Hideki, and I'm a die-hard spo-com tuner. This is my 300ZX 2-seater non-turbo. This is my new project car, I used this Z as my daily driver a few years ago but now it's time to start modifying the old Z-car. The purpose of this build will be to make a respectable driver, no horsepower goals, no chasing numbers, just a well rounded spo-com that I can drive around and not feel like a jerk driving a stock 16 year old sports car ;)
The Car
Powered by the VG30DE DOHC 3.0 liter V6 with a 10:1 compression ratio & variable cam-timing, even without turbos the 300ZX is a fast car. The car is completely factory tune, with the exception of a GReddy automatic transmission cooler (a must have if you own an auto 300ZX) but more modifications will be on the way. The 300ZX is a wonderful driving car, the steering is light, the grip is awesome, and the music from that DOHC V6 is intense. Hopefully Hideki can turn this Z into one of the finest naturally aspirated 300ZX's out there ;)
My first goal will be to make some power out of this thing, opening up the intake and exhaust is #1 (I've got an HKS exhaust system on the way) a strut/spring combo will be next to give this Z a proper stance. Then I'm feeling a Bomex NA Z front lip spoiler (very tastefull) and a vented nose panel, and either a Bomex wing or factory TTZ wing. Future goals include bigger cams (yes they make cams for NA 300ZX's) headers & high flow cats, and some laughing gas.
People are gonna ask me why I don't just swap for the VG30DETT like I've never heard of that before :) and usually Hideki would go that route, but I just like the NA 300ZX thing. And personally, I'd rather shoehorn something funny under the hood like an RB :) Happy tuning
