I just picked up this "New Bonneville" on Saturday. It only has 590 miles on it so far. I put 120 miles on myself and it's only Monday morning.
I already have a 2001 Yamaha Roadstar 1600. It's pretty heavy and configured more as a power bagger than a commuter. I commute 41 miles per day, so I was looking for a smaller, and more nimble city/HOV bike.
I cruised alot of the dealers a couple weeks back (with spring fever) and test road some Suzuki's and Honda's. But, once I saw the New Bonneville, all blacked out with classic retro 60's styling, I was hooked. After a test ride, I knew I had to have it. It is $7,299.00 (before tax and license) from the dealership.
I went home to think about it and on a whim searched the local Craigslist for any Triumph Bonnevilles (new or old). To my amazement, there was a single post for a 2007 and the exact model: New Bonneville - Black! It only had 450 miles on it and the asking price as only $5,500.00!!!
Needless to say, I wasted no time contacting the seller and arranging a test ride that week. The owner had originally bought it for his wife, but she wasn't comfortable riding it (too big for her). He already has a Scrambler, so he kept it around for the past year, occasionally riding it to keep it up and continue the break-in conditioning.
I plan to use the money I saved to mod the bike ... alot. I always need to strip down and customize my bikes. I can't stand the stock lighting, reflectors, covers and plastic that come on new motorcycles.
I'm going to replace the exhaust, air intake, switches/controls, handlebar/mirror, and instrument cluster to improve riding and performance.
After that, I'm going to change up the appearance to look more like a 60's bobber, with whitewalls, retro seat, fishtail pipes and more chrome.
