Well I just put a deposit down on this nice little Cab. Needs a little TCL and a fresh coat of paint, but it only has 147k original miles, with all new brakes, bearings and tie-rods.

It is going to make a very nice daily driver once it is all cleaned up. And the bonus is I have all the spare CIS parts left from doing my G-60 swap in my Rocco for this....including a 270cam, 16v lower air box, new injectors, K&N filter, spare water pumps, rads and assorted other bits and pieces.

I've found an 88 Cabby with no motor or tranny, but from the pics looks to be in excellent shape. Might pick it up for its top and interior. Might even take the clipper kit or just part the remains out to make some cash.
Well tried to bring the Cabby home today...but she is up to her rims in ice and could not get her out....hopefully we'll gt some thawing happening and I will be able to bring her home later in the week.
Well I missed out on the parts Cabby by a day....DOH! Oh well life goes on, I have sourced a place not too far away though that may have most of the parts I'm looking for...just waiting to hear back from them.
LOL it would seem that this little Cabby does not want to go to her new home. She is out of the ice, moved (by hand) enough to get at the gas filler and added 10L plus some injector cleaner, new fuel filter, plugs and wires.....cranks great...no spark! Hmmm if your familiar with my Rocco it would seem that we have a theme carrying over here...rofl. Turns out that the coil is dead....so tonight in goes a new coil and we hope that she;ll fire right up.
She did not fire right up...took a little fiddling with the connection at the hallsender and then varoom! purred like a kitten. She drove great, smooth over the bumps (which we have alot on here in TO), strong acceleration, good braking and easy turning. But.......and yes there had to be a 'but', she only made it 3/4 of the way home before the hallsender crapped out. So had to have her towed the rest of the way. No big deal, I have a parts place that I can get on cheap. So will fix that tonight, give her a oil change, new air filter and a once over.
SO in went the new distributer, new wires and cap....fired right up! let her warm up for a few minutes and then went to do a few laps around the block. Got 3/4 the way around the first time and she died again. This time it is the fuel pump...guess the pickup in the tank was so gunked up with old fuel that the pump was not getting enough, over heated and seized up. Again not a big deal and to be expected. I have another pump and pick-up unit so will swap them in tomorrow, and I'm going to swap in new injectors, lines and fuel distributer while I'm at it. Then she'd better run good or she might have to fall to the 20lb sledgehammer lol.
Well lucky for me it was not the fuel pump, just the relay. Of course it is a unusual relay in that it has a small 5th pin ground....so i'm sure it will not be cheap. For the time being I'll bypass it with a switch and standard relay. Replace the rear shocks and springs...bringing it back to orginal ride hieght. I'll be picking up new doors and hatch on the weekend and hopefully she'll be on the road shortly thereafter.
I found a fuel pump relay on the weekend, put it in and she fired right up...fixed a couple rough grounds and we are on the road! I swapped off the mixed matched rims and rubber (195 60 14's on back, 175 75 13's on front) that came on the car...and placed on the black 185 60 14 ROH's from my Rocco.

Looks like I may be plagued with alot of little problems with this car due to the fact that it sat for such a long time. THe brake light switch died yesterday...no a big deal and it is to be expected. Once the weather warms up I'll be doing a whole wack of preventative maintanaince on her...like replacing all the rad hoses, vacumn lines, flushing the brakes and coolant and replacing all light bulbs. I've also sourced a new top, off of a dark blue 88 Cabby...so I think in order to make it match better I'll be painting all the black trim and wheels a dark blue. If I can I might even get the interior out of the 88 as well.
And that is done...not alonely was the brake switch toast, but there was a gaggle of loose connections at the back of the fuse panel. Everything is battened done now and we have lights again. Installed the new hatch, which has a 3rd brake light in it, so I will have to splice into the brake harness to get it going.

Went to put the passenger door on and noticed that who ever took it off sheered off the lower bolt in the hinge. Tried to get vise grips on it but there was not enough bolt sticking out. So I cut if off flush, center punched it and carefully drilled it out. A luckly this time did not damage any threads, so on it went.

Looks like the same thing happened on the drivers door, so guess I'll be hoping for a repeat of my luck tomorrow.

Then in will go the new stereo, and I'll transfer the amp and sub from the Rocco over to give me some decent tunes.
One bit of bad news...filled the tank up today and it would seem that I have a leak on the drivers side of the gas tank.(rocco days revisited) Well for the time being I'll just fill her half way, then when I get a fuel cell in the Rocco I'll swap it's tank into the Cabby.
With the great weather we had this past weekend I was able to get alot done on the Cabby. 1st was a new top...went on fairly easy and looks great...did a water test after with a garden hose and NO LEAKS! Next was the drivers side ball joint, timing, and installing the new speakers, drivers door (and the sheared off bolt came out without damaging the threads), touched up some of the paint and painted the wheels blue to match the top.
Update April 16/08
Big news! Soon this will be a Stage4 G-60 Cabby. I've decided to get rid of my Rocco as this past winter took a beating on it as far as rust is concerned and I just don't feel up to tackling it. The Cabby has a Rock solid body with only a few small areas of surface rust. She is far mor comfortable to drive, so with the benefit of the Rocco motor and all it's performance bits she will be a kickass summer car!
Update April 29/08
I've been slowly collecting together the parts I'll need to swap the G60 motor from my Rocco into the Cabby. 12x12 slimline electric fan, 10mm and 20mm wheels spacers, ISV bypass, more curved boost tubes, new Fuel filter, plugs, new rubber engine and tranny mounts, and some sheet metal to smooth the engine bay with. If all goes to plan I'll start the tear down early May, send her in for a fresh paint job and then swap in the motor at the end of May. Might even have her ready to show at the June JitterBug.
Pics coming soon.
Decided to keep the Rocco, so I'll have to source another G-60 motor or maybe a 16v turbo for the Cabby.
Update June 6/08
Been a while since I've been here. Finally had some time to do some work on her, new top, new wheels

It's about high time I got back to this little lady...I've not touched her since back in the fall, far too long.
First up a new suspension, Neuspeed Sport springs, Koni shocks on the rear and unknown but solid struts on the front. A new TT dual downpipe and a I believe GTI 4-2 manifold. Plus a few leftover goodies from the old Rocco 8V motor.
Once she is running and riding better it will be onto the cosmetics...bumper delete, duckbill or Kamei spoiler, de-badging, Rocco front seats and a new stereo.
