Some of the linkage has hung up on the tunnel hump. While pulling out the carpet to replace, I noticed where the linkage was hanging up. I need to take out a little more of the hump and even though it will be covered, I want it to look very good and it is killing me because I am not a metal worker. I got some tech support and idea's for Chevelles.com
You can see that the transmission is 3" longer than the stock muncie, and how close the linkage is. I formed a piece with a boby hammer and then decided to buy a replacement shifter hump. It will not fit due to the new location, but I am hoping that I can modify the stamped peice.
From this angle, you can see where I will need to do some forming modifications.
I have formed and trimmed up the custom piece and the factory replacement.
I will weld the two peices together and then I will paint the underside. To finish, I will weld (rosette)
the new hump back into place just like the original was. All this for a new carpet install. I am pretty sure that the carpet should go in easy even-though it is factory formed because there isn't much difference from original to now.
