This car started to be a simple repaint and evolved to an entire restification. I have owned the Elky for 28 years and this was the second remake of the original restoration in 1981. This time went much farther than expected (have you heard this story before?) and lasted 3 years instead of 3 months. Color is Porsche Guards Red in urethane. Items addressed are Custom cloth/naugahyde interior in saddle/beige, new dash bezel with SS gauges from 1965 Chevelle, SW tach (factory location), tilt steering column from 66 Olds, Pioneer CD/tape/FM with JBL speakers and power booster. Chassis includes Global West negative roll suspension with autocross springs, anti sway bars and Koni shocks, Master power brake systems front and rear, w/front disc carbon fiber, Vintage air A/C system, Electrical replaced throughout with new M-H electrical wiring, all new stainless and anodized aluminum trim, grill, all new lights and lenses, Mild built 10:1 283 coupled to a 700R-4 overdrive and 3:08 Positraction. Engine accessories use polished billet aluminum pulleys, polished A/C compressor and Alternator, updated to 12:1 quick ratio power steering, American Racing 17/7 Torq Thrust 2's custom backset with billet spinners, rebuilt doors and anything else I could take a bolt from. New glass and chrome and of course paint and body work, all done at home in my garage. I did not do the interior upholstery or chrome myself, but yes to everything else including all bodywork and paint, replacing q-panels and rust repair. Lots of mechanical changes and updates to numerous to brag about. Biggest lesson learned is when to say enough! Whew! Engine bay pictures lacked last minute wiring cleanup if you noticed.
This shoebox gets 20 mpg w/overdrive (no bull) and handles like a slot car. I think I'll keep it a few more years.
