Here are some interior shots. All US M5s came with tan (natural) leather. A few models made it over with black leather. Everything is covered in leather....even the ash tray cover!

I decided to make the bland color scheme a little more exciting by re-upholstering all the seats in two tone black & tan leather.

Engine is a rebuilt Dinan S38. The engine is now a gas hogging 3.9 liters of displacement compared to stock 3.5. Forged high compression pistons and billet crank add to the mayhem. Rated horseper is 365HP. The car weighs just under 3,100 lbs so it should be able to keep up with newer crop of super sedans. Dyno results will have to wait until engine has been broken in. I changed original black crinkle finish of valve cover and plenum to Ferrari Red crinkle paint.....my tribute to those great Ferrari engines. I powdercoated the intake trumpets black to match the ones on newer E34 M5 engines.

I sourced what I thought were OEM European headers from a friend's dead M6 last summer and was disappointed they were some type of aftermarket job! A keen member of a M5 forum was nice enough inform me the headers I have are actually one in a set of twenty custom made racing headers by Schlossnegel Racing here in San Diego. They were commissioned by Rug Cunningham the late owner of Cunningham BMW. Rug had these headers made for use on his M5 for the La Carrera Classic Road Race in the early 90's! Another 4 were used on M6 coupes that also participated. The remaining headers were sold to select Cunningham customers. These headers have larger tubing and larger primaries than OEM Euro headers for more sustained high speed power!

Here is picture of the OEM Euro headers...truly a work of art

Here are my headers prior to jet coating and install

Here is pic of them installed on another lucky owners S38

As you can see there are huge differences in design and look. We asked Jeff Gerken, one of Cunninghams sales managers at the time why they just didn't source OEM headers instead of building their own...........he said "Because it was fun and we could!"
